4 stroke question

litt0104

Question

Hi I'm looking at buying a new motor, a four stroke in the 130 to 150 HP range. I'm looking at the Johnson and the Honda. The Johnson is quite a bit cheaper than the Honda. I'm wondering if any of you have experience with either of these and if the Honda is a better motor or is it just more expensive? Thank you, Dan.

I have had the Johnson (white suzuki) 4str 140 for just over a year. Not a single problem yet. Started right up this spring, runs great and is very quiet. Great Warranty too.

I am sure Honda builds there own powerheads. I have owned both Honda and Yamaha 4 strokes. The yammies seem to be a little stoonger in terms of power, and the Hondas are a little quiter. Either way, a selection of Honda, Yamaha, or Suzuki (Johnson) would be nice. I opted for the fuel injected model, Yamaha F150.

ALL of the bigger 4 stroke motors sold in the US are made in Japan. Tohatsu makes Nissan and Mercury. OMC (Bombadier) sells Suzuki 4C motors, Honda makes their own . Yamaha also sells under their own name.
Honda I has been producing 4 strokes outboards the longest. I have a couple of friends who have Hondas, and they both say they are a little cold blooded but when they warm up their great motors.
My brother has a Suzuki and likes it and I have a Yamaha and it performs perfectly.

I own a 2000 75hp Honda 4 stroke and to say that it is a "little cold blooded" is a understatment. Once its running....no problems. My father has a 115 yamaha 4 stroke EFI and that thing is awsome...starts with no problems and runs perfectly.

I got a 140 4-stroke Johnson. Runs like a champ and has never had a problem yet. The thing starts all the time and never misses a beat. Did I mention it also purrs just like a kitten. grin.gif

I just bought a Yamaha 150 h.p. 4-stroke EFI and it is great. It starts on the first try, it is quiet, and it is smooth running. No more sputtering or fumes!! smile.gif The gas mileage is great at all ranges from trolling to wide open. I would recommend to anyone the Yamaha F150.
