Hot Panfish Action - Pictures.

That looks like a great meal you got going! Rock bass are tremendously fun to catch. I was fishing White Bear, throwing a crankbait for bass/pike, and had a hit. What felt like a 1-2 pound bass turned out to be a 10" Rocky! Those things are the Pike of panfish.

Conditions were overcast and gray and we caught the fish on glow jigs and Berkley Gulp! With no electronics and a hand auger, I drilled 25 holes before we found fish (my shoulders are still a bit sore) so I'm sure you'll understand my reluctance to give up the exact location. Most of the satisfaction for me comes from studying the maps of a new lake, planning my attack and actually catching some fish. I wouldn't want to deprive you of that same pleasure.

Are you seriouse? No picts. of kept fish? Total catch and release doesn't do any good. Selective harvest is good for the resource! There is nothing wrong with keeping fish to eat! Lets try not to be so...

Agreed! Selective harvest is a good thing. Part of the enjoyment of fishing is a good fish fry! Nothing wrong with keeping a few for the pan. Now, trying to max out and fill the freezer or keeping the big breeding stock is another matter entirely. I no longer keep more than two meals worth of fish in my freezer. Heck, they're better fresh anyway and that gives us more of an excuse to fish more often. Balance is the key IMO.

If you go the photo sharing forum and read a post from Rick "No dead fish pics" he explains the rules for posting pictures of fish. It is good to read this instead of risking losing privileges to the site. I would put the link in but I am not able to get that to work.

Dead Fish Pics

Please, no Dead fish pics, stringer pics or pics we assume the fish definitely will be dead shortly allowed.

We do respect legitimate harvest of fish and do so ourselves. We are very high on selective harvest for wise stewardship of our lakes, rivers and streams.

The responsible thing to do on a heavily traveled site like this is to heavily promote Catch, Photo and Release and especially selective harvest which has a CPR theme running through it, with photos in these forums.

Besides encouraging Selective Harvest we also encourage cameras in the boat for better looking photos to be taken. This provides one less reason to keep a fish, the photo proves you caught it and it sure looks a LOT better here and in your photo album.

That is why we will not allow dead fish pics. Besides, those dead fish pictures do not look nearly as good.

Please click the Register link and read the policy before posting.

Thank you very much for your understanding and help in promoting selective harvest and better photos.

    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
    • The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
    • It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
    • We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there, but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
    • I've been out on the flats. It's like being on a different planet
