You have better options that are probably closer to you. Waconia is a great walleye producer. Minnetonka is another. Those metro lakes in my opinian can really produce if you get away fom the crowds or fish during the week.

Is there any good walleye fishing lakes within an hour drive of Minneapolis. I have just moved here and am new to the area.

You might find better fishing if you dont leave the city limits.

Spend a little time on the lakes in your back yard and learn them.

If you drive an hour to fish, I might have a couple fish on the ice before you get to your location.

Just put Lake City, Mn into Map Quest and you have Lake Pepin.

Lots of good info about the lake and back water areas in the Pool 4 forum.

I don't know if you are planning on trying Pepin this winter but I doubt the ice is in great condition since there is a current.

tstordahl1 If you would like some info on Lake Washington go to the South Central Forum there is plenty of talk about it there. Other lakes to check out would be Orchard in Burnsville, Marion in Lakeville,Cedar in New Prauge(SP),there are also some good lakes down by Lonsdale and Mongomery.

If you dont mind letting them go, watch the Miss Pool 2 board. From June until Sept I go out about once a week and occasionally post when I am solo and you can jump in.

Pool 2 is from St Paul to Hastings. It is 100% catch and release for walleye. In 4-5 hours you should get 10-20 eyes per person w/ size from 12-26"-most 16-20".

The river is open year round for fishing and is ice free 300+ days a year.
