FL-18 problem

wally-eye

Question

Hopefully I can explain my problem without confusing everyone. While using my FL-18 in Auto Zoom mode, every once in a while the bottom will move up from 0 feet to about 1.5 to 2 feet. It seems to still work fine, it just shrinks down the auto zoom from the bottom 6 feet to about 4 feet. If I switch to the normal mode it works fine. Most of the time if I leave it in normal mode for a while and switch back to auto zoom it works fine again. Anyone else have this problem?

Sounds exactly like the same problem I had with my 18 before the upgrade..

Check your serial number of your flasher against the serial numbers on the Vexilar web site. Also look on the back of the powerhead there will or won't be a sticker saying that it has the Version 2 upgrade. If not, you will need to send it in for the upgrade, it's free I believe.

Check with Vexilar they will take care of you.

I've experieced the same problem on occassion. I checked my serial # and according to Vexilar's HSOforum it does not need the update 2. It does not have an Update 2 sticker either. Any suggestions? I suppose I should contact Vexilar.

I emailed Vexilar and Pat gave me a few suggestions. He said first of all always start in the normal mode and have the gain set at 10. This will help it recognize the bottom and then you can turn it down to your normal preference. Also, he said you might have this problem if you switch from hole to hole without switching back to normal mode first. It also could be that it is having a hard time reading a soft bottom which could cause it to jump bottoms. Email their service department with any other concerns. He was very helpful and quick with the response.

I agree Vexilar rock\'s and with having top notch employees as Pat it makes them even better. I\'ve been emailing Pat back and forth with a battery issue I am having. The Charger light doesnt come onto full brightness once a charge is complete. Narrowed it down to a \"resistive\" battery. I replaced it locally since it was within 30 days of purchase. When I get home I get to find out if it successfully charged or not.
