When I was trying to get new properties to hunt in around New Prague I had several land owners say they would be more than happy to hunt coyotes on there property. Even the ones that said no to deer hunting. One said that all I would have to do is set out in the open with a chicken out and the coyotes would come running in. I guess all I have to figure out is how to get a chicken to stay by my side. LOL. My point is, once you figure out the basics just start knocking on some doors and I'm sure you will find many farmers more than happy to give you access. They will probably tell you right where to set up also. I may consider doing it. My main problem is in weapon choice. I mostly bowhunt. The only two guns I have are a 30.06 and a couple of 12 gauges. Neither are probably the right gun for various reasons. Good luck.

i shoot the new ruger 204 my brother shoot the .233 and my buddy has a 22-250. any one of these guns is a great gun. the .223 is the cheapest to shoot.a 12 ga. with buckshot or the dead coyote loads should do 1 in to about 60 or so yards

I agree with Ortonville on those being the best choices. I use a .223 The other couple of caliber that I have and you could consider good as well are a .17 Remington(Centerfire) and a 220 swift.

Ortonville, My sister lives just over the river near Milbank, SD. If I ever come that way any chance we could hook up at talk coyote stuff or maybe even a hunt sometime? grin.gif

I just got myself a new Savage .243 to hunt coyotes.

That has a great straight shot, and it's economical to buy (it won't break the bank).

I use Winchester Ballistic Silvertip from a suggestion, they will break on a small impact and won't ricochet.

I live in Lonsdale which is 10 miles east of New Prague and 25 miles south of Eagan, if you want to come and try, we can do something together, I am new to this too.

We'll probably be out again this weekend, Not sure about driving all the way to New Ulm though. We're north of Rochester. Been getting a few to come to our new Foxpro FX3, but a warm moonlite nite would be better. If Valv or someome had some calling sites near Faribault Thats about an hour drive for us, so could meet up there if interested? We would also like to check the ice on the lakes in sheildsville area, had good luck fishing there other years but not sure how safe it is with this warm weather?

Got one last night around 9:00pm after calling for few minutes.

If somebody wants to join me, you are welcome, I don't have much ground to hunt, I just sit near my house and scout a large field where there is a lot of activity.

It worked yesterday......

Lots of coyotes in the area, not seeing them during the day, but hearing them during the night. The last couple of weeks they have been in the slough bottom 100 yards from my house. There are some pheasants there and they are getting fewer by the week. I have dogs that don't even pay attention to them any more because they are so used to them being there. With the moonlight last night they were there yipping and carrying on at 11;30, They hush at the sign of any movement, and do not come into the field in view. I think there is too much for them to catch and eat yet to get them to resopnd to a call, but I'm going to try tonight. Good luck to you yote hunters.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
