What kind of Ice shelter?

Mueller

Question

I would like to buy an ice fishing shelter and was impressed with the Frabil two seater w/padded seats but I see several other brands out there and want to make the right decision.

Needs to have a sled platform.

Don't have a snowmobile and have to pull it out by hand for as much as a 1/4 mile with gear.

Want something with quality.

My fishing partner is my wife who needs to be somewhat comfy or she gets grumpy.

Anyone have any experiences with any of the criteria I just mentioned?

Thanks

Mueller

I have the Eskimo Quickflip II and it does pretty much what you want to do. Its a lot lighter weight than the others, I can load it in my truck by myself, you can stand in it, and although I bought it for one man use, two people can fish quite well in it. If I owned a towing machine I would have gotten something heavier duty, but for one man pulling, its great. Since the sled is lighter material, you might want to put some sort of wear runners on the bottom.

I have a fish trap guide, its light weight two man shack with nice seats and is high quality house. This shelter sounds like a perfect match for what your looking for. the tub is a little heavier than the QF II. I have had my FT guide for the last two seasons and have no complaints to speak of.

Check these out in this order. Otter Lodge, Fishtrap Yukon, Polar Sport then Frabil. The Frabil seating is really comfy but takes up too much storage space in my opinion. When in doubt go bigger you will be glad you did. No matter what you buy get the hyfax runners for it. Saves years on your tub.

i just bought a eskimo quick flip three and i love it it has a padded beck seet and has lots of room. i am 6ft tall and can stand up easily with all kinds of head room, you can fish 3 but i usually fish jst 2 in it and you can fit all kinda gear in it and the price is good as well i dont think you would be dissapointed un less you dont have the room to haul it, its a little bit big, but i fit it on a 5x8 trailer with my wheeler no problem, also tows easily by hand and it only weighs 108lbs, i looked at the frabil xlt, but didnt like the fact that the tent bars on the bottom didint go to the ice thought it might be a problem if you didnt have snow to back during early ice.. good luck and choose what you want

I have an Otter Lodge and love it ..... but it's a beast to load into the truck and pull by hand. I'd suggest looking for something a little smaller and for sure lighter. Otter Cabin could fit this bill, or others.

The Fish-Trap Guide is very nice. Plenty of room for 2 people & not overly heavy if you want to travel alone. The Trap-Link is cool too if you have any friends with the same shack. With the attachment you can have a larger 4-man shack in a couple of minutes.
