Depends on how close and how many units are in that small area. At the Catfish get together last winter I had a lot of interference from the Marcum units. But there were a lot of them in a fairly small area. I also have fished the Gull Lake contest and those were mostly Vexilar units. But still a lot of interference due to all the units being used in a small area.

Good Luck!

You will not have a problem with 15 feet. I have fished in the same house 4 to 6 feet apart and could get both units working just fine. The IR button will solve any problems you may have. Will say that the Vex will have to adjust more than the LX-5 will.

I have an LX-3 and was getting killed by my buddy's Vex-18 the other day. He didn't even need to have his IR on until I asked him to turn it on because I couldn't see my bait unless the gain was up to 8 or 9, and then I had my own mess. It seemed to help, but I thought I was going to be the one with the superior equipment frown.gif.

I had the same problem. It was a bad transducer. From what I understand the crystal that picks up the signal inside the transducer comes loose from its mount. I sent mine to Marcum and they fixed it under warranty.

Two friends and I make an annual trip to Arnesons on Lake of the Woods and fish out of the same permanent house.

It started out that all three of us had vexilars and could tune each other out with a little patience and a lot of IR button pushing... what seemed to work the best was for one person to turn their IR off, and the other two people to try different IR settings until everyone could get a good picture of the water column. It wasn't perfect (like you get when you're fishing by yourself) but one could clearly see what they needed to.

Then, about two years ago one friend bought an LX-3 and brought that with... and again, after some tweaking all three flashers (2 FL-8's and 1 LX-3) could see what they needed to...

Now this year that same friend who bought the LX-3 bought an LX-5 and sold the LX-3 to the other friend... and I've still got my FL-8... I'll let you know how things turn out this year... but I may be on the short end of the stick this year.... but, that's a good reason to upgrade, right?

I fished for a weekend next to my friend who has the LX-5 (iffwalleyes) and we had no problem tuning each other out for the weekend... so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Like Dietz said, make sure your transducer is at the very most at the bottom of the ice if possible, and not any lower and you should be in good shape - which helps eliminate the returns from the other flashers that you could be picking up...

One other thing that I've noticed is that as the day goes on the interference seems to get less... I don't know if it has to do with the unit warming up, the batteries dying a little or what, but it always seems better in the afternoon... that, or I've caught so many fish that interference doesn't matter... but I really doubt that's it smile.gif

Mine has been doing the same thing were as i have to turn my gain way up to 8 or 9 just to see my tear drop 8ft down.I always thought it was my battery but now im thinking its the transducer. Does anybody have a Marcum webb site i could go to. Im also thinking about getting the color update. Thanks.

I bought a LX-3 this fall and was out on monday with a buddy that had a fl-8. Fished in a portable that was 7'x8'. There was interference at first but when i just pushed the IR button a few times the interference was completely gone. There was a lot of interfernce if i didn't push it a few times. the fl-8 was pretty clear also once in awhile there would be a little interfernce but otherwise they both worked great in a 6' range. Also i have never had to turn the gain up over 2. I don't even think i have had the gain at 2, always lower. One thing i can't understand is that the LX-3 picks up my jigs better then the buckshots rattles i use. The buckshots are by far way bigger the the jigs. I know that the buckshot will swim out past the cone sometimes but if it is right below the hole it picks up the jig better. Not to sure about that one, so when i use a buckshot i just turn the gain up a little bit
