I had both a Scout and an Otter Lodge. I sold both and now have a Trap Pro. Both are excellent choices and you can't go wrong with either.

The Otters have more weight, but a heavier duty sled and canvas. They are more expensive.

The Traps are a little cheaper, but still very durable. It also depends on what models you are looking at.

If you are looking for a 2 man, the Yukon and Voyager can be just as much weight as the Lodge. If you are looking for a 1 man, the Pro beats them all weight wise hands down. The Traps are also a little smaller and will fit in most trucks and trunks of cars. The Otters are bigger and may or may not fit in the bed of a truck. I personally like the Traps because I pull by hand and the Traps pull easier, in my opinion. Like I said, both are great companies grin.gif

Otter has a stronger tub and the front has a nice rake that will help it ride up on snow and slush. Doing 50 mph towing my Otter isn't unheard of if the conditions are right of coarse. My Otter does double duty during winter camping/fishing trips to haul all our gear. Those sleds take a beating and have held up to everything we've thrown at then.

I like Otters square tubing better and I believe their fabric is tougher. Yes Otters are more expensive and seating has to be bought separately but you have a few options to choose from there and in most cases is removable which leaves you sled open for gear.

Clam has flip overs and the suitcase shelters. Less expensive and the seating comes with your shelter. Weights are about the same for both Otter and Clam. Ease of setup are about the same as well. IMO Otter has the durability over every shelter out there. Downside with all flip overs is they take up a lot of room.

I have owned both and I really like my Otter Lodge the best of any portable I have fished out of. Very portable and very sturdy. I can fish two adults in it and still have a ton of room left over, yet it is still light enough that I can get it around and fish it by myself.

another vote for the otter lodge. i own 2 of them an may add a third shortly. i bought an original otter the first year the lodge was out and its performed like a champ ever since, the last 3 seasons being relegated to use by tag alongs (which often times mean a little more "abuse"!).

as others have said you pay more for an otter, and have to add seats extra, but in my opinion you get what you pay for. quality of sleds, theres is NO comparison, otter has by far the toughest sleds out there. the square tubing is the cats meow, tougher canvas, more options in seating (i have the bench seat mounted in "my" lodge, but if fishing alone i have the option of removing that and just putting in one seat for myself, which gives a guy ALOT of room!!

overall, if i was given a new fish trap, i'd sell it for what i could and use the $$ towards an otter.

Castmaster,

When you have a moment, can you measure your bench for you Otter Lodge please? I ordered the bench for mine. Seems like it could be longer, but maybe I did receive the right size. Mine is 48". Thanks, Marty

Big Sky,

That is the correct bench seat for that sled. I own one myself. It works great and there's enough room to fit items like propane tanks that can sit higher than the seat. Keep that in mind when mounting the seat to the sled.... wink.gif
