Strike Master 2000

I need a new auger, mind bit the dust today on the lake. It is an old eskimo and 7 years old. I have been looking at the SM 2000, I know there is better out there, but my change is very low, I am in no hurry when drilling a hole so 1 blade is just find for me. But I am getting to old for a hand auger, tryed, too much work on the ticker. Anybody have any opionions on strikemaster 2000 would be greatful. Thanks,

Hopefully someone has more info. Otherwise, a phone call to Strikemaster could answer the question. But Strikemaster will not be shipping out anymore of the Lazer Mag 2000s to retailers this year due to some "issues" they've had with them. I have no idea what the issues are. But this was the wording we received at my place of employment.

I've had mine for 7-8 years and it's been a good auger. Mine bit the dust so to speak end of last winter. I took it into strikemaster and they rebuilt the carb. Runs like a top now. If funds are an issue it may be too early to give up on the Eskimo if it's only 7 years old. It may just need a rebuild that'll run you less than $75 in most cases.

Good Luck!

Minnowhead I upgraded from a Mag 2000 to a LazerMag Express last year. The Mag 2000 was a good auger. Give Reel Fishing and Tackle in Madison Lake a call. This past weekend they had a used Strikemaster Lazer in their shop that looked brand new. I am sure they can hook you up with something in your price range.

AWH, is it just the SM 2000 series that will not be shipping anymore. Any suggestions on other augers that would help me. thanks

Yeah, it was only that particular model that was mentioned. I wish it would have said more about what the issue was or is. But that's all I know. I can't imagine it was anything too major or I would think they would have recalled the auger. But it sounds like they're simply handling the situation by not sending anymore out to retailers.

Does any of your SM 2000 spit oil out the exhaust like mine does? Whats the cure. There has only been 1 tank of gas through it. Maybe too much oil. I did it per the manual.

What gives.. The auger runs great but I dont like it spitting oil at me

I'll likely be around or on one of the local lakes. Maybe do a Mille Lacs trip as I keep hearing they're on fire right now. My wife has to work so I think I'll be able to get a kitchen pass. wink.gif

Hope you get those fish fired up on LOW. Sounds like it's been a bit inconistent so far. I'm sure you'll find them.

I'm curious what these issues are for the Mag 2000. Aren't the engines all the same on the strikemaster units. 2 hp tecumseh engines. Maybe I'm wrong but that's what I've been told. Was thinking about buying one of these too--maybe a call to strikemaster is needed.

The mag 2000 and 2hp lazer are IDENTICAL powerheads, minus the paint color. This comes directly from Carol at Strikemaster.

"The only difference between the Lazer Mag Express and the Mag2000 are the drill units. The Mag2000 comes with a single chipper drill and the Lazer Mag has the Lazer 2, 3 or 4 bladed drill units. So, yes they are the same power heads. The Lazer Mag Express should have a red engine, but some may have a black engine. All the Mag2000 have a black engine."
