Yep, it's definitely a hen wood duck, great pics too! I'm not sure if it's a juvenile or adult bird though. It's pretty late for them to be here in MN, as they're one of the first ducks to head south when things get cold.

Cheryl, I was wondering whether you saw her fly at all. It might be that she's injured and couldn't migrate. But she does look well fed and healthy so its hard to say.

I didn't see her fly, she was in the water at the small dam near the power plant when I arrived, then she walked up the bank after the mallards. I wondered if she was injured but she has definitely not been around before. I go there so often that I immediately spot the non-mallards and what's new, and I saw her straight away.

She did not appear to be in any kind of distress.
