gonefishin11
I was curious which lakes are good within an hour or two of fargo any direction to fish perch, crappies and walleyes.
ivegottabite
I have been wondering the same thing. I have heard that the Casselton and Jamestown Reservoirs are decent spots to fish in ND. DL seems to have a great selection of lakes as well, but I think you already knew that.
iffwalleyes
Jamestown is a good walleye fishery. Some years you can run into crappie out there and the are a few perch there as well but you aren't going to get a large quantity of perch. Otherwise usually Pipestem Reservoirs usually will kick out some crappies. This one is just West of HWY 281 and the Jamestown Reservoir is east of 281. marine_man
I agree with both posts... Detroit Lakes has a good selection of all species, with lots of lakes to pick from in a small area, which makes changing lakes mid day pretty easy.Jamestown Reservoir is also pretty good.. iffwalleyes fishes that quite a bit...marine_man
fisherdog19
What's up fellas, rested up from the Selkirk adventure? If you boys are ever in DL, give me a holler, I'll take you out to some of my spots. I'll post some pictures of the ones we got on Sunday when I get them (Red River and DL forum). iffwalleyes
Oh ya Peter I think we are ready to head back. We find our way over to DL everynow and then. Some winters more than others. We might just take you up on that offer.

As iffwalleyes has said, we may have to take you up on that offer this year... later... marine_man
icefishingdude
Ice fishing near fargo is hit or miss, some people fish the river when it freezes, but its never really too safe from what i hear....Id prolly suggest Devils lake for good crappies and walleyes, the tournament they have there is pretty good too. Ive heard of, but never fished, the casselton area, some more info would be good.
iffwalleyes
Hey icefishingdude. Where did you find crappies in Devils Lake. I never heard of any crappies in there. Just walleye, pike, perch, and white bass.
icefishingdude
I went to last years fireman's tournament, saw some guy catch one and I assumed they were in the lake, I myself have never caught one on Devil's.
Perchpapa
I heard that people were catching crappies last year also. I thought it was a rumor. But I talked to someone else last week and he told me where and he said that is was a short spurt and the crappie bite was over.
iffwalleyes
Huh that is interesting. I have never heard of them in there. There for sure can't be any abundance of them in there though. I would have to doubt that you could go out there and specifically target crappies. I would think you would just have to stumble across them while fishing for perch. Perchpapa
I agree, I think you would have to stumble across them. It was late in the ice fishing season last year when I heard about the crappie bite. I did not here if they had any size to them or what.
rap
this month's dakota country had an article in it about a good late season crappie bite on DL last year... but i'm sure that is a rarity just like the article also said
icefishingdude
from what it sounded like last winter the perch were about the same way, stumble across them....hopefully this year is better, anyone fished devil's yet?
