Newcomer looking for advice

Hi everyone from the Cornhusker state,

I am new to this form,but have been reading for about a month.

I do have a problem with this form--It really cuts in to my sleep time.lol.Lots of great info.I can see from reading this form that no one will mind if I ask for some advise from the more experienced.

I am relatively new to ice fish'n. A buddy and I did buy a gas auger and a clam this summer at a g/sale.Question:I am looking for a cheap starter flasher(funds are tight,laid of my job after 10 yrs-bummer)I found a old lowrance lfp250 and

old hummingbird green box on HSOList.Shold I buy one of these? or maybe someone has a cheap,cheap flasher collecting dust that they want to part with? Any advise?

Welcome to FM!! I would save some cash and look for a used marcum lx-1, or a vex fl-8. You can find some pretty good deals as many people are upgrading for the upcoming season. I used to have the old green box and it worked well, I would however be a little scared off from throwing out cash on something that has that many years on it.

I agree with BDR..... look for a FL-8 or LX-1 in the for sale section...guys are always up grading...so it shouldnt take long to find one. Good luck in your search.

Welcome to the forum. If you've been looking and watching for a month, you know what we're about.

I agree with those other sports. Look for a used marcum or vex. The ones you mentioned could do in a pinch, but marcum and vex are all about ice fishing. You should be able to find used stuff here for $150 or less. In fact, if you put a post on the board about looking for used stuff and say you can't spend more than $100, you might find an older Vex for that kind of money. I have an older Vex, and it works smashingly. Not selling it, just saying!

If you have a power auger and portable shelter, you're only one away from landing the BIG THREE! I bought all of my big three used, and spent $300 instead of $1,000.

Look close, know much, deal hard.

Used Marcum LX-1 or if you guys can swing it the new LX-2. You can look for used Marcums. Guys are finely prying them from there fingers and upgrading to the newer models.

You have some good advice here with reference to Marcum, and as Bob mentioned they have some super new stuff out this year. That will definitely free up some used units. I suggest looking in our "items for sale- used gear" forum.

You should be able to find an old zercom for under $100. These things work good, just not color like the newer ones. I know 2 guys who still use them and love them.
