beartoo
I have an older Coleman lantern (Double Mantel) is this safe to hang in my portable fish house?
BIG DS
Absolutely! Check with you local bait shop and get a hanger to hang it from the poles. Check out the fish light for Coleman lanterns. It is a reflector that sit on top of the globe and is held in place by the top cover. It eliminates the shadows under the lantern. Solderbloom (sp?) Manufacturing makes them. Go on their sight to find a dealer or buy direct.
schweady
hey bear: I have a dbl Coleman white gas model that I used for light and heat in my old homemade portable house. Set it on the floor, tho. Had to open the door for oxygen once in a while. A buddy hung a Coleman Instalight propane dbl mantle from the support pole in his Otter Magnum Village last year, but used one of those Frabill hooks that drop it down 5-6 inches or so. Just monitor the heat level on the canvas for a bit, or maybe just set it on the ice and stare at the light?
Fisherman For a Lifetime
Just make sure the heat doesn't burn a hole in the top...
Eastwind
I used to hang my old Coleman in my Clam 5 x 6 years back. If you do, be sure that you put an aluminum pie plate above it and make sure that whatever you hang it on will not come loose if you bump it. After I bumped mine several times during the excitement of setting hooks or playing fish I just got too nervous about getting burned by the lantern or worse, having it crash to the floor while lit. I have always assumed that bad things would happen if a lit Coleman crashed to the floor in a shelter made of plastic and canvas. Maybe I'm just paranoid but better safe than singed. LEECH21
I'm guess I'm a little freaked out by that as well. I just put mine on the ice in my one person Fish Trap.
SteveWilson
I prefer to keep mine on the ice. The white gas models work fine. I bought an instant start, propane model and like not having to take my gloves off to light it
Woody Erickson
beartoo,I agree with BIG DS, the Fish Bright is perfect for a portable, especially if you want to hang it up. It reflects the light down, where you need it.As far a hanging it, I use some cheap carabiners that I bought at Wal-Mart (camping section). I slipped 1 onto the center pole, then clipped another to it. I ended up dropping it a little more with the use of some key split rings. With this setup, I have not melted the tent, yet....hope this helps,
Big Pine Walleye
I have an otter village and I hang my latern from the top using a hanger that looks like this: This seems to drop it down far enough from the ceiling that I haven't had a problem yet! I have had my lantern going for up to four hours without a problem. It is also nice on those very cold days as it throws a little heat by your head. Now that this post has come up I will be checking the outside of my fish house more often! Have a lot of people had trouble with melting or burning there tents? I may need to look into a new system! federline
In the past, I've hung one up using a metal stringer with the lip clips.
burl
Just a regular shower curtain clip works well also.Makes it easy to move on the center support rod to wearever you need it.Burl.
