Frabill XLT or Clam Yukon?

Wyoming Ice

Recommended Posts

I need some quick responses here, because I have to make the decision in the next 2 hours or I won't get either!!! So heres the question.

First off I can get a great deal on a new Frabill XLT Twin($200 less then yukon!) But I was wondering how many of you have used Frabill shacks, and have they handled the abuse? I like the yukon, but seems to be smaller then I thought, were the Frabill fits the bill. I know Clam corp. has great customer service, but how about Frabills? I guess what I really am asking is the yukon really worth $200 more or are you just paying for the name? I just don't know or have heard much pro's or con's about Frabill. Any comments or stories would be great!

Thanks, Wyoming Ice

I have a clam voyager, which is just above the yukon, and love it. I did a season's worth of research before making my purchase. the things I weighed in were cost (most important), weight, structure, tub construction and customer service. by far and away, the fish trap won hands down. that's not saying that there aren't higher quality shacks out there (otter) but I think I got the most for my $$ with the fish trap. I think the tub on the yukon will be better, but if you take care of the frabill, there's no reason it won't last as long as any other tub. all that being said, with that kind of price difference, I'd probably lean twards the frabil. I had a frabil speed shak XL before I went to the flip over style and had to contact frabill, and also received good customer service. any decision you make, you won't be disappointed.

Wyoming ICe,

I love my Frabill's. If it is last years or this years XLT the size of the shelter is awesome with an almost 100% vertical front wall for good hooksets. This year’s model has the best padded seats I have ever sat in. The modular seating is very flexible allowing you to remove one seat for only one person or have both of them in there for 2 people. Customer service from Frabill is top notch! If you have any problems questions or concerns they will take care of you. IF you like the Frabill go with the Frabill; if you like the yukon go with the yukon. They are both reputable shelters and I can say in my area that the XLT's are the hardest shelter to get due to demand. Therefore the resale value on that is very good as well. The choice will ultimately be your decision. Either way you will enjoy the benefits of a nice warm shelter! As far as cost, 200 dollars will buy a lot of extras or fill the tank up a couple of times.

Good Luck!

I have a Yukon and love it. Yes it is spendy, but worth every penny. Between the swivel padded seats, the console tray, rod storage tray, there's less extras you need to bring along since it's built into the sled. I didn't want to spend the extra money for the yukon right away, so I saved over the winter and picked one up on sale at the end of the season. Something to think about...

I have had my xltwin for a couple years now and love it! I will list a few reasons why:

1) The black fabric is awesome. Lots of people say that they dont like it while looking at the frabils in the stores, saying that it is too thin or flimsy. 2 years and not a tear or a problem with it and snow and ice does not build up on the artic armor fabric. The shack keeps it heat very well with the black fabric.

2)I have had NO problems whatsoever with the tub. The first part of the first season i had it i didnt have anything on the bottom like hyfax and had no problems at all. I did take a pair of old downhill skis and glued them to the bottom runners of the sled(perfect width) and a heck of a lot cheaper than hyfax and i think that it will probably last longer than the hyfax too.

3) the weight isnt too bad on it either. I normally put it on the back of my truck fully loaded( 3hp auger, 20# lp tank and all the gear) by myself.

4) the modular seating is awesome! I love the fact that in about 1.5 seconds i can add or remove a seat if i am bringing another person of if i am just going solo i can add a bunch of room in a matter of a second or two.

overall, I really like my frabil and their customer service is outstanding. i know that if you chose a frabil you would NOT be dissapointed.

I've also been debating on a new portable and think I'm set on the Frabill XLT also. The seating looks excellent, comfortable and moveable. It also seems big enough to comfortably fish two people. Would like to try an Otter, but am not going to pay that much for a fish house and have to turn around and spend all that money on a sled for it too. Wish they'd do something different there.

I think they are both good houses, But the one thing that I found out is that the Frabill will fit under my topper for my truck, The Yukon will not. So I bought the Frabill. The price and room are great, Cant wait to try it out. grin.gif

So, which one did ya pull the trigger on...

I have fished out of a clam guide and really liked that until I came across an unbeatable price on the XLT down at Cabelas sometime in March. So far I have not been disappointed with my XLT and really like the seats. Now I neeed to upgrade to the cushons. I will have to say the only reason I didn't get a Yukon was the price. I wil have to say I am happy with the XLT set up and it is larger inside than the Yukon and is actually a closer comparison to the Voyager, which is a lot more money. Like everybody has said, either way you will be very happy.
