kiefer06
Anybody watch the Gopher, Michigan game yesterday? What a game! I'm glad to see the Little Brown Jug come back to Minnesota after being in Michigan for 16 years. Congratz to the Gophers!!!!Kiefer06
Dotch
Watched the second half. Figured I should see if they were really gonna pull it off. Work was slow after getting a bunch of stuff done in the forenoon so forwarded my calls. I missed the win in '77 at Memorial Stadium even tho I had season tickets. My brother got married that day but I witnessed the aftermath in the dorm. I did go over to the Bierman building to see the Jug on display. I listened to Ray call the one in '86 while working around home but this one was sweet. When Russell broke free, could almost taste it. Had a couple brews to celebrate! JIvers
I watched it--I remember the win over Michigan in 1986, and this was a long time coming. I have lived for five years now in Iowa City, home of the University of Iowa and about 80,000 Hawkeye fans, so seeing the Gophers win a big game was extra sweet! fishinchicks
I have a question for those that follow Gopher football more than I do. Why is it 16 years since the Gopher's had possession of the Little Brown Jug, but yet their last win was in 1986? That would put it at 19 years, right? I think my math skills are ok... I heard Randy Shaver on KARE 11 say the same thing - 16 years.
Dotch
Your math is right, it was 19 years ago as we had been living at our present location just over a year when I was listening to the call on 'CCO. It was 28 years ago they shut 'em out 16 - 0 at home. No tie games I recall so know of no other reason the Jug would've been in MN in that timeframe. Big Pine Walleye
I am not sure what to make of the Gophers this year. I hope that Penn State was just that good and that the Gophers can finish with 8 to 9 wins! It would be great to see them in a bowl game that was a little higher up on the list. I hope they come to play this weekend! It seems like there schedule will be tough the rest of the way out!
RJ
Do they play every year? Maybe it was 16 losses, not years.
rundrave
was curious myself, so did a little searchingsee link below:Due to the Big Ten’s unbalanced schedule, Minnesota and Michigan did not face each other in either 1999 or 2000, breaking a consecutive streak of annual contests that dated back to the 1929 season.
