LED lights

I'm looking at putting 12v LED light system in my portable this year. I'd use an extra Vex battery to power it. I've seen some people post about using SuperBrite LED lights but the HSOforum is confusing as heck to me.

has anyone used the Clam light system - likes/dislikes? and anyone have any other suggestions?

thanks!

Tim

On the superbright led site, just go to the car accent lights, and then you can look at all the diffrent products. I have tried two of the led lights with a 1156 base and then leds on a circuit board in my big house. Its not real bright, but I think they would work great in a portable house.

I have the red clam LED lights, they barely give off enough light to keep yourself from stepping in your holes. I would get the standard white lights instead and use a larger size battery. I still need to use a headlamp to tie up, but it is nice to know that your light wont spook any fish.

It looks like Clam came out with a new white LED light rope this year. If I remember correctly, last year they had a red LED light rope and a white non LED light rope. This year all I see is the white LED rope on their HSOforum. Might be something to check into.

Yup, the Clam Corp revamped their set-up, now going with white LEDS. 30 bulbs in a three foot marine grade rope set-up. 24 hour run time on a fully charged 12V 7AA battery.

I'll be equipping my shacks with these for this coming winter. I will let you guys know how they perform.

Interested in putting LED lights in my shack. Can I run them off a Vexilar battery or should I check into using a Snowmobile battery? If you get a chance drop a note. Looking at purchasing LED strip lights from Cabelas or do you have any other suggestions? Thanks.

The Clam lights say they are designed to run off a 12 volt source like a Vex or similar battery. They are already on the Thorne Bros. HSOforum for only 15 bucks. I will surely be getting a set or two of these for my house unless I hear bad things about them.

Yup, the lights available on Thorne's HSOforum are last years model. These white lights were not LED and ate up battery juice fairly quick. They did offer the red LED light source last year also. So just be careful to check to see if the lights are LED before you buy from a store or HSOforum, they may still have carry over from last year.

But this year, the new LED system I mentioned, is availble right now on Clam's HSOforum. And they can be run off a vex or camera 12V battery, or if you want longer run time but a little more weight, check out 12v motorcycle or lawn tractor batteries.

Schaak

I have yet to use the new set up, so I have no personal knowledge yet. But from what I posted earlier, it is stated that a person should get 24 hours of run time on a 7AA 12V battery using a single strand of these lights.

Sure you could run more lights, the draw will be a bit more and you won't get the amount of time listed. But I am sure you will have enough battery for a couple nights of fishing before you need a recharge. A person doesnt need the lights on during the day. grin.gif Also, a person could run a larger 12V battery too!! And remember, the colder the temps are will definately have a play in how long any battery will last too.

Sorry about the confusion. The picture on Thorne's HSOforum is the same as on Clam's and I thought they were the same thing. Now I see that Thorne's is just the Shelter Light System and Clam's site has the 2006 Deluxe LED Lighting System.
