Bear Recipes

I got a bear this year and it is my first one. I need to get everyones favorite recipe for cooking or smoking bear meat. I have never cooked it. Is hamburger good? Take it easy on me this is my first post and may be doing something wrong. I have read this post for a long time. Thanks in advance.

Welcome Barts,

I like to take a few hunks of bear meat and marinate it in Lawry's Chipotle Lime marinade (I think...I know it has Chipotle in the name.) I let it sit overnight and then grill it on the Weber. You have to be sure to cook bear meat like pork otherwise you can get trichinosois. So follow any guidelines or recipes for pork and you should be good to go!

I agree with Bronco that bear needs to be cooked like pork but the hamburger is good and I use it in anything I would normally put hamburger in. Enjoy and congrats on the successful hunt.

Another question regarding hamburger- Do you mix it with half beef hamburger?

Your bear should be fat enough to not need any addition of beef or anything else. That meat is marbled like beef, unlike venison. Most of the sausage made is 100% bear due to this. Lots of good recipes. I posted some a ways back on the recipe forum. I will have to get back there and post some more.

Here is what we do with the bear roasts! there is a slow cooker spice mix by Eastman called savory Herb. put roast potato's.carrots,onions,celery in a crock pot add 1 packet of above spice mix. Slow cook for a half a day! Hmmmmmm food don't get any better than this ! We got our mix at fleet-farm but other outdoor stores may have it! It was in the grilling/smoking section!! We use our bear burger just like beef burger and dont mix any other meat with it!It is also very good!
