chub
Whenever they're physically strong enough and mature enough to handle a firearm. Once they reach a certain age, I think 12, they gotta have firearm saftey training.

Mark Christianson
My son started shooting when he was 7, and bagged his first 2 ducks that year.Granted, I do not let him shoot at flying ducks yet.Baby steps....
magnumthunder
My daughter has been hunting since she was 9. when she was 10 I sent her to firearmsafety classes. The when she turned 12 they mailed her the certificate. Bad thing about doing it that way was she does not have the instructors signature on it! but I was glad that we did it early anyways. I personaly think they should teach it in school, it might help cut down on accidents. When they are 13 they must posess a firearms certificate to hunt. 12 yearolds can be kinda touchy depending on birth date because some instructors wont let you take the course till you are 12. wyldewal
In WI it is legal to hunt at 12 years old with an adult and a hunter safty certificate. My oldest son gets to do this next year. I'm having him take a spring class so he's ready for the opening of duck and goose season. His birthday is in July. But I've had my kids in the woods and blind with me since they could keep up with me . I can't wait until next year when he can take his first bird, and deer and rabbit and goose and..... Good hunting everyone.
Roosterslayer05
Ha i couldent hunt when i was 7 because if my dad saw me shooting at a duck on the water he would have taken my gun and said i was done hunting for the weekend. He was so against shooting ducks on the water that when i was 11 and he saw me aiming at a duck on the water he shot up in the air to scare the duck away then chewed me out. So i can proudly say i shot my first duck when i was 14, in the air. The way it should be.
Mark Christianson
I'd much rather have my son out shooting a bird on the water at 7, then wait till 14 to get his first bird in the air. Chances are pretty good that when he is 18, he is gonna look back and be pretty happy I took him out to ground pound a duck at age 7. A very small percentage of kids will ever say they even got to hunt with a gun at that age. To shun your child for shooting a duck on water is pretty low if you ask me. Give em a lot of dump?? Well, of course when he is older. To each his own.
