Worst case scenario

I just got back from the archery shop. I was hoping to find a different rest for my bow and maybe a shorter stabilizer for hunting when the guy helping me pointed out the hairline crack forming at the limb pockets on both of my limbs... Here I am with 4 days available till the Archery opener and I don't have a bow. ( I say 4 cause cause I'm busy the rest of the days).

Anyway, I'm going out tonight to look at some new gear. You'd think I'd be happy about it, but I was hoping to use that money on a new waterfowl/turkey gun.

Sorry about the sob story, just thought I'd share. frown.gif

Sorry to hear about your story frown.gif, but I guess better to see it now and not pose a problem on opening morning or the middle of the season.

Better to have a new bow in hand and start tuning it in for opener.

Good Luck and keep us posted on your what you do.

A funny twist to your problems though.....

I want to upgrade my bow, but I just can't quite pull the trigger.

Now if my bow had cracked limbs.... Well then...... grin.gif

I wouldn't have a choice.

Seriously though, that is some bad timing. But much better now, then when the moment is upon you to let er fly at Mr Big.

I just had my bow string let go this weekend and had to have one made---rushorder and overnight delivery = $89. I should have it out of the shop by monday. Plenty of time to get back on track. If it would have happened any closer to the season opener I would have been buying a new bow.

Powerstroke,

If you need a shotgun you can borrow mine its a Remington 870 Express Mag i believe im not into names it only chambers up to 3 inches but youre more than welcome if you need one. I do keep it at my parents house in Minneapolis but can always bring it back to Eden Prairie on any given day. oh that WMA you know which one has some great deer signs lots of tracks not very good for dove though

Thanks for the thoughts guys. I guess right now my budget is ~$400 fully outfitted. I went to Cabin Fever in Victoria and they agreed that my limbs are cracked (second opinion you know)and they sell used bows.

They got a '00-01 apprx. Darton Yukon XT (its their early cam& 1/2) with 70# limbs and my draw length already set. They want $285 for the bow with sight, rest and string whiskers.

Also went to Schaffer Archery in Burnsville cause they also carry used bows and they have mostly PSE. Its gonna be $150 for a bare PSE up to about $325 for an outfitted PSE or Parker.

Any thoughts? I hope to purchase tomorrow or friday so I can get some target time in.

PS. thanks for the offer uspen. I'll keep that in mind about the deer sign and the shotty.

I shoot the same Darton Yukon model that you are talking about and it has worked well for me. I really don't have that much experience shooting other makes of bows, so I cannot compare it to anything else. All I know is that I enjoy shooting it. As for the price, I think the bow with nothing on it was about $300-$325 when I bought it new, so I would say the rest and sights quality would be the determining factor to know if it is a good deal. Hope this helps.

Powerstroke,

What brand/model bow do you have? How old is it? Do any of the pro shops have a used bow with the same model of limbs you have? When I first started into archery and had to work with pro shops I was able to push to get equipment turned around quickly. Most pro shops should be able to get limbs from the vendor overnight and installed within two days. Although that does depend highly on how old the bow is and if they are still made anymore. I had a limb starting to go within 3 days of the state field tournament in N.D. I contacted the bow manufacturer and explained the situation and they sent the limbs overnight to my house and changed them out and sent the old ones back so they could complete a failure analysis on them. I still had over a day to setup my bow again and shoot the tournament with a state record score. My dad had the same thing happen to him. He contacted Hoyt and they just wanted to know that you were competent in doing the changeover yourself and they direct shipped to our house. Otherwise, they would have sent them to a nearby pro shop to install. In both cases they sent brand new limbs and paid for all shipping.

Depending on the age of your bow you should be able to get new limbs although you may likely have to pay for them if it's more than a couple years old.

Well, my Darton that is broken is older than 25 yrs old and they stopped making parts for it in 1984. I checked cause I wanted different wheels (yes wheels not cam) and they said they don't know of anyone having any.

I did buy the Yukon and its a great bow. I love it and I've barely worked with it. I need to get arrows and a few accessories but I'm more than ready. The previous owner of the bow said he took a Carver Cty. record buck with the bow last year. Tough expectations to live up to.

powerstroke,

have you seen all the geese flying around Eden Prairie, I wish they would let us hunt them right behind my apartment building that place has a s...load of them and right off 212 right by flying cloud airport there is a field with nothing but geese on it man it would be good shooting if you ask me. I know a place I might try for geese im just afraid of one landing on water and not being able to retrieve it since i dont have a boat i know youre supposed to hunt what is it 150 yards away from water but what if the goose glides for a bit and ends up in water
