I hear you guys kidding about bald eagles. I sincerely hope you are not actually shooting, or thinking about shooting, these birds. Aside from the obvious fact that it is illegal by both state and federal law, it is simply unethical and not the sort of thing a genuine sportsman does. Do they eat a duck now and then-you bet, I've watched 'em smack one right out of the air. But so do crows, owls, foxes, coons, mink, weasels etc. About the only thing NOT eating duck is me!!! I may not even buy a license this year.....first time in a loooog time.

WOW! I have never seen an eagle take a duck out of the air, but down in my area they clean up the cripples. Only problem with that is they hound the ducks (on the refuge) all day long. I believe the ducks simply move on after the constant picking they get from the eagles. It's bad enough that the open hunting areas are over crowded, but getting dive bombed time after time in the refuge isn't helping matters either.

Uftaz, My post was just merely a joke, I would NEVER shoot a bald eagle or a loon. I have had bald eagles take downed ducks right out of my decoys, but they gotta eat too. As far as the raccons, fox and coyotes, they are going down every chance I get. Speaking of coyotes, I have been hunting just north of Dalton for about 35 years and never saw a coyote. Last weekend we were working on the hunting camp and at about 10pm we had a pack within 200 yards howling away. Are they moving into the area lately?

Buy a license, there are more ducks around up there than you think. We saw quite a few last weekend during early goose season...got some good goose shooting too.

Blackduck and Nova:

Watched an eagle come down from 200', like a fighter jet, right onto a duck flying about 10' off the water. That eagle hit the duck so HARD the duck actually bounced in a geyser of water when it hit the surface! Eagle was on it right now, picked it up and flew. Lived a long time in AK and saw lots of eagle stuff.

As far as ducks near Dalton....I did see one last season. ONE! I'd give anything for a little mallard pothole for an old guy with bad legs.

I show my new Lab pup movies of duck hunting...the poor little gal will probably never see a real live one. Ha.

Okay guys.
