ChuckN
Wow, what a weekend. Cool temps and some wind greeted our final Statewide LETS event and the bite, well...it could have been better. Saturday brought six teams for a friendly gathering and competetion on West Battle Lake. Deitz Dittrich and Chris Wosika hauled in the winning bag of some bass and northern for 7.2 lbs. Some interesting muskie stories from the day were told too. Our mystery lake was East Battle Lake. This is a true multi-species lake and a great pick for us to fish. JJA
Congrats to the top 3 overall groups. I was impressed with the amount and size of fish you all caught this season. There were times that finding fish seemed impossible but you were always able to do it. I had a great time this year and learned a lot. I have never been an a organized tournament before, let alone a series of tournaments. I realized how much fun they can be and Thank Chuck for getting me involved. Chuck, you did a great job organizing and setting up all the events. Thanks for all the effort. I hope to be involved again next year. Enjoy the rest of the summer! Matt Johnson
This weekend was a lot of fun! It was nice to see and BS with everyone again. Fishing was definitely tough, we caught a lot of fish, but nothing that could weigh. Several 11-11.5 inch bass, but nothing over 12. And I don't think I've ever seen more 12-19 inch pike in my entire life! However, we did manage one in between 20-22 inches Some nice fish brought in by other teams though. Congrats to the top three finishers... 1st Place - Deitz and Chris 2nd Place - Chuck and Aaron 3rd Place - Brad and Charlie Here's some more pictures from yesterday... Pre-event BSin Coming in for Weigh-In Team Borch weighing-in Dylan with a heafty bag of fish Deitz weighing-in the winning bag of fish Deitz with a couple bass from the winning bag Thanks Chuck for all the hard work you put into making sure everything ran smoothly this season. And thanks to everyone else who helped out in that process. I'd also like to thank everyone who helped make sure we all had a place to camp. Always fun BSin with everyone by the fire! It was another fun year for the LETS! Enjoy the rest of the summer and see everyone next year! Good Fishin, Matt Johnson

Deitz Dittrich
I agree with what everybody has said about LETS. If more people knew how much fun it was, they would do it in a heart beat! I have to admit, Fishing against such great guys, and gal, is an honor, and to be able to call myself champion of the 2005 season is one I will not soon forget. There are truely some awesome anglers in this league. I dont hold a candle to many of you when it comes to catching and finding walleye, or panfish for that fact. Its truely been a blast, Thank you Chuck, you did an awesome job running the events, and an even better hook. To all that fished the LETS events, thank you for sharing your time with me, I now consider you all friends. You are welcome in my boat anytime! Deitz PS... and I deserved to win on sunday.... I used the most gas! LMAO!!!!
Borch
It's was definitely a blast! More little pike and bass than you could shake a stick at! Whatever they're doing to increase pike size there ain't working. Great job Chuck on a well run tourney series. I know it's gotta be a lot of work to make all the arrangements and such. It's definitely been a lot of fun. A great chance to get to know some new water and BS with the guys and gals.
Juice
Deitz- So what was the winning "pattern" out there?
Mark Christianson
I really wanted to give it a shot this year, but it just wasn't gonna work. Not saying I will make it work next year, but I sure would love to join in guys. My last couple summers have been he** bent on some habitat improvement projects on our property not too far from East Battle. Next year is gonna possibly be a bit more free. And to find out you were fishing my home lake on the last week... Did anyone get to fishing the docks east of the boat launch? If not, you missed a couple good bass... Sorry for the late notice. I sure hope it can work for me next year.
jigginjim
biglakebs$$, I know how you feel I'm thinking of giving this a go for next year. This year my work was to come first. Well now my work is fishing full-time. And gander mtn. part-time.
Deitz Dittrich
Juice-The pattern changed drastically during the day. From morning till late morning the fish were in shallow pads. I threw a Mepps timber doodle across the pads to see if I could get a fish to give me its location by making a boil. I didn't catch any fish on the timber doodle, but they showed me where they were. I then sent a flipping tube back to them. I think I caught almost all the fish I ended up showing themselves. By mid morning the wind picked up and that bite slowed down OR I ran out of pads, not sure which. But I then found a lot of fish on wind blow banks with cabbage in 7-9 feet of water. Spinnerbait. SLOW rolled. Reeling the spinnerbait as slow as painfully possible. So that it followed the drop off tipping the weeds as it went. I even tied the spinnerbait on a briad line rod so that I would get the bait stuck on weeds and rip it out. That is when the fish would hit.BLB- I did catch that fish in the avitar just East of the boat landing. However I fished docks for the last 3 hours of the tournament thinking they should be moving up. That fish was my only bite! THE ONLY BITE ON A DOCK ALL DAY! But a good one at that. All in all I think my partner or I caught somewhere around 20 bass that would have measured 12"... and maybe another 20 that were short. Mark Christianson
Dietz That was my pet fish! You didnt catch 'er on the dock that had the boat house trolley next to it did ya?? ChuckN
You will have to see if it found it's way home BLB!!
Deitz Dittrich
nope different dock... This was on a pontoon boat with a boat lift. No trolly.
Mark Christianson
DietzI saw your post in another topic about "your partner hooking a 20lb 'ski in last weekends LETS".You had a muskie hooked on EB???This may sound crazy, but since we have had a place on East Battle(1985), I have NEVER seen a 'ski in that lake. And how thats possible, I have no clue. West Battle has muskies and its connected via a river......
ChuckN
It was West Battle BLB. We fished it on Saturday. I pulled in my first muskie that day, and they had hooked a dandy...twice at the boat!
Deitz Dittrich
BLB- Chuck is correct, we fishing west battle on saturday and that is where we hooked the ski. I skiped a comida under a dock and as I was pulling it out this 45"(guess) ski came flying out from under the dock. My partner threw his spinnerbait right on top of the fish and it slammed it. FFaught it all the way to the boat it jumped and threw his spinner.. he yelled an explitave &#&#@*^ and slammed his bait in the water. The darn ski turns 180 and slams the bait again. Faught it for about 10 seconds and lost it again. So you are safe.. no skis in East.. however I did catch a few pike in East that had a very strange pattern to them, more barred than spotted, more simliar to a pikeral than a typical northern pike.Chuck caught his first muskie on West the same day... Mark Christianson
Actually, I wish some muskies would show up in EB. They gotta be in there already.
ChuckN
Those ski's would help eliminate that terrible strain of stunted northerns.
