Fridays Action

Recommended Posts

I'm just curious to see if anyone else had some great action Friday afternoon? I had my best bass fishing day ever, not numbers but size wise. I'm wondering if the weather conditions were the main factor, or if I was just at the right place at the right time type of deals.

I was so amped up after Friday that I went back first thing Saturday morning, a couple more decent fish were landed, but it was nothing like Fridays pigfest. Were the fishing gods just smiling down on me or did anybody else have a decent bite on Friday afternoon???

I was out for 10+ hours on Friday fishing smallies. We by no means got many big fish.

Went out again Saturday for 8 hours and we caught fewer fish, and no real size to speak of at all. In fact, we were out with around 8 other rigs, and the biggest smallie caught(all boats combined) for the day was 18 1/2 inches.

How big were the fish you got Friday?

Congrats!

No real size to speak of at all? Friday I'd say you did perty good der bub. Yeah, it's only a 19.5" smallie I guess... smirk.gifconfused.gifgrin.giftongue.gif

Saturday, 7:46 am smallie hawgin:

Well, when all was done yesterday our boat with myself, BLB and Cory Bechtold had 53 smallies landed, a musky follow, one cat, two rock bass, and 7 northerns. Several nice smallies in the mix but we ended up shy of the 20" mark with a 19.5" BLB landed in the afternoon.

Things that make you go hmmmm.... LOL

BLB.....

Well, I might as well open up a little can of worms, especialy with no pictures to back up my claim. But, my top five largemouths came in at a combined 24.6 lbs. And I lost one that might have put me over the mythical 6 fish 30 lb. limit. shocked.gif

The List

5.7 21" My 2nd largest ever.

5.2 20 1/4"

4.7 19 1/2"

4.6

4.4

3.6

3.3

+ 3 smaller fish

Now on to the no photo's story, I've found out that it is difficult to work the digital camera when I'm out by myself. It doesn't want to focus on me and the fish in timer mode. So I broke out the ol SLR camera and mounted it on a tripod in the canoe. I tested it out on the 3.6 lber, worked great I thought. All I had to do was turn it on (pre-focused), hit the button, sit back down and wholla- fish picture. Now, I'm fishing out of a canoe, and I tend to stand most of the time I'm fishing by myself. So I set the hook on a 4ish size bass, and I hear a sploosh behind me. I knew before I even turned around that it had to be the camera taking a dive. The bass finally gets off, cause I'm too busy trying to mentally mark where the camera went in(peagreen water 8" visibility). It was easy, it's where all the bubbles were coming up from. grin.gif Thought I might snag it with the end of my rod, uh-oh it's deeper than seven feet. So I put on a monster five-of-diamonds daredevil, and on my second attempt, I bring it up. Took the time to take out the batteries and film, opened it up and took off the lens. Lens looks shot, but the camera might work again. I let it bug me for a while, but after the results of three more hours of fishing, I couldn't care less. I had a perma-grin going the whole weekend. smile.gif

Hey Goomba(Chuck) crazy.gif

With 8 rigs or so in the river loaded with people on Saturday, and the biggest fish being 18.5 inches for all those boats, thats a slow day on quality.

As far as Fridays fishing, we got one over 19 inches for 10+ hours of fishing.

PS - Still both great days fishing overall though. grin.gif

Hey Duff, that is a great day on the water. I've had a couple bass days like that, and they are rare. Too bad about the camera..

The fishing (catfishing) was dead for me all weekend, if that matters. frown.gif

You two done passing that thing back and forth yet?? grin.gif

No big deal on the camera, it still had pics from last summer on it, that shows ya how much I really used it. I just hope I have a few more bass days like that in my future, it sure was fun.

Hey, I just found out that I'll be opening the duck season up in Gissert/BLB/ChuckN territory, maybe we could all get together and discuss the openers success at a local watering hole???

I was out Thursday morning and did pretty good. Caught about 9 fish in 1 1/2 hrs of fishing. Most of them came on a senko, and one on a 1/4 oz black/blue jig with a zoom trailer. It was one of the better days of fishing lately. The largemouth went 4 lbs. The smallie was 2 lbs. Had another one that went 3 lbs. Im like Duffman, I had to take the pictures with one hand holding the fish and the other holding the camera, so they turned out funky. Decided to bring the camer along cause my brother in law never believes me when I catch fish. Fishing action was hot that day. cool.gif Ill post up pictures later when my wife shows me how to upload these pictures.

I'm all to familiar with the camera woes. I have one that has a delayed start, but I never have anything elevated for it to sit on so I end up taking them from the ground pointing straight up with me standing over them...They don't turn out so well... And the biggest smallie I've ever caught I managed to not turn the flash on so all you can see is the fishes tail... Sigh.

Hey Duff

Whats this about you being in "our" duck territory over opener?????

Sorry off topic, but a guys gotta know... laugh.gif

Shoot me an email. I think an opening weekend "watering" is necessary.

[email protected]

I need some details on where you will be, how long you are gonna be up there, etc, etc..... If you make it a long weekend, I might have a spot you could accompany me for some birds if they are around. Maybe Gissert and ChuckN would be available too?????

Gave it a go again last night, same lake, same spots, same technique. I think we caught 8 or 9 fish, and not a single one over 17". I must of sore lipped all the big ones. grin.gif That's fishin' for ya. I guess I was there last week. cool.gif

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
