Tackle Organization

tomfromblaine

Question

Well it's time to figure something else out, I have 2 boxes jammed with stuff and it's only half of what I want. How do you guys organize your stuff, leave room for more and still remember where every thing is, visited Cabela's and not sure which way to go as far as hard or soft boxes.

thanks in advance for any input.

I like the soft sided ones and then I just take boxes in and out depending on what Ill be fishing that day. I do have 1 big hard side that I use when I go on long trips. I can still swap trays in and out of it like the soft side.

A good shoulder strap is a must on the soft sides.

Also make sure they are well built. I have gone threw 3 of the cheaper ones in the last 2 years.

I liked the old tacklebox where you could open it up and everything was there just waiting. I made the switch to a bag and wasn't sure how I'd like it. After using it for some time now I'd never go back. For one they hold a lot more stuff but as the earlier posts said, you can buy extra trays and take and add to your bag depending on what your needs.

tomfromblaine, just returned from a fly-in trip and I have to echo what the previous posters have stated. I label the removable boxes on each end,the front as well as the top so no matter how the boxes go into a softside I know what's in each box.

Most boxes are tackle type specific. That is jigs in one box, rigs in another, pre-tied spinners and bottom bouncers, crankbaits, Well, you get the picture.

A few boxes are lake or season specific. Early in the season I fish Mille Lacs from a dock or launch ( my office manager and her husband own a bait/tackle/launch). I have a box that holds exactly what I need for that time and place. All I need is in one box. Of course it's labeled "Mille Lacs/Dock/Launch."

Probably the most important box is the one labeled "tools". I find that many tools needed: forceps, needle-nose pliers, etc require that I modify the standard cubicles with my trusty Dremel. This box's contents rarely changes and is the anchor box regardless of where or what I'm fishing for.

Labeling the boxes on the front, top and sides really helps when they're stacked on shelves. I use small and narrow adhesive labels and after adding text I overlay them with tape to keep moisture and dirt from the text. Good luck.

Dockehr has some great ideas there. I labeled my boxes with a sharpie pen but of course it eventually wears off and requires a touch up.

I also have one of the Cabela's bags. Awesome! Its one of the smaller ones. In the summer, it serves catfish duty (sinkers & hooks). In the winter, all my ice stuff goes back into the bag.
