LX-3 Colors...where's the orange?

After much research, I changed my mind and bought an LX-3 instead of an FL18. I've used it 3 times now -twice on LOTW. Last weekend at LOTW I fished next to a buddy in an Otter and he used an FL18. It was interesting to see that he was able to distingish 3 very distinct colors while I only saw yellow and red all day. While I can't be sure he caught anymore fish than me because of this "advantage"; I was, for the first time, a little disapointed with my LX-3. I never paid much attention to this concern before because this is the fist flasher I've ever owned and just figured I wasn't reading it properly or didn't have the settings quite right.

Do other people have problems distinguishing the orange on their LX-3's or is it just my old bad eyes? Is it possible there is something wrong with my unit? I re-read the owners manual and can't see that I'm doing anything wrong. I know on one particular page in the owners manual they show a picture of the unit displaying a nice clean orange band. When I saw that I just about laughed out loud. I've never seen anything like that!

I get the orange color. A fish coming in will first be yellow then orange and if things go right and the fish is hot on the bait then red. The transition from yellow to red isn't long but its there. I was used to the Vex colors and it took a few outings to get in the groove using my MarCum.

Don't know if this applies to you or not but......I'm VERY color blind. Flashers don't work well for we as I have a really hard time seeing or telling colors.

If I've got a minnow on, and he is pushing to the outside of the cone, it tends to make me want to turn up the gain to see the jig. This is were i loose an accurate return and, in effect loose seperation, ect..

I get orange it took a little while for me to get use to it. My eyes were so used to seeing Red, Green, Orange it took a while for my eyes to adjust to the new color combination. If there is a flaw with the Marcum it is their color choice because the do tend to blend together. But after using mine a month or so now the colors just jump out at me. I think that you just need to use it a little more.

You kinda get used to colors. I was a Vex user but I switched over this year and got myself an LX3. At first, it was really hard to convince myself that this was actually a 3 color flasher. Then the more I used it, I guess the more I started to see a difference. I am not saying that it will be as distinguishable as the Vex but you can start to tell. IMHO, this is probably the only negative thing with this unit. Otherwise, I think it is a great unit. I hope Marcum does something to make the three colors more distinguishable and give all us current owners a free upgrade. Or at least those who want one.

MarCum has actually made changes to the LX-3 display. It is brighter and you will get used to looking at the colors. I don't really care about the orange, I like to see my bait yellow and fish biting on it red. However, I do see the orange, it shows up before the red as fish enter the cone.

If you are having trouble now and didn't before or find yourself having to turn you gain up. Most likely your transducer is not clearing the ice. The ice is getting thick and this is the number one complaint I get from clients. Use that cord you were given with your unit.LOL

Maybe I'm color blind after reading some of the responses, but it sure looks like red, green and orange on my flasher. I don't have any problem at all telling them apart.
