410 over and under

Does it make sence to invest on a 410 over-and-under that shoots 22 and 410 shots to hunt rabbits, coons, and small game or just a 410 pump, break, ect?

In my opinion it makes a lot of sense. If you're shooting game that is standing still, use the 22, otherwise use the 410. Chewing bb's just raises ---- with my teeth.

A buddy has a 20 ga,/22 that he uses for rabbits, squirrels, and grouse. He thinks its great. The .410 is harder to wing shoot with than a 20 gauge. Much less room for error. But they're still fun guns to own.

I had a break action over under .22 and .410. It was my first gun. My Dad used to make me carry it with the breech open for saftey. But I sure loved that gun, Brings back some good memories. I wish I still had it.

I wish I had a 410/22 O/U. I've found 2, both in gun shops, but was too late in getting back to the owners both times. Unfortunately I don't carry a check book.

I think the first time the owner sold it before I got back to him (no problem there, you snooze you loose) but the 2nd one I think the owner (different shop) realized he was selling it way too low and just took it off the shelf. I saw him with a similar 410/22 (probably the same one) at a gun show asking quite a bit more.

I don't know that I would ever use it but it would make a nice gun for the grandson when he's old enough to start hunting.

I have one and it's great for all small game. Use it every year and never misses. Don't sell it cause you can't find another one like it. This one's gonna be in the family forever...

My dad has had one forever... love that thing. He still heads into the woods with it quite a bit even though he owns much newer guns.

Be careful if you put a scope on it. Think he now has a side mounted scope for sniping squirrels and rabbits, but you definately need one that's shotgun worthy.

Definately a great gun for the family. They used to be pretty cheap, now they're hard to find.

p.s. Make sure you flip the thing over to 22 - I remember hitting a squirrel with the shotgun, it dropped, I reloaded; but they're tough and this one ran, ended up treeing the thing and thought I'd clicked it over all the way, but when I pulled the trigger I got more of a bang than I was expecting.

feel like a moron admitting that (especially here), but it's one of those lessons you learn once as a kid and figured hearing straight from somebody might help keep it in mind - I still remember it 15+ years later. I wasn't taking an unsafe shot with the 22 and it was just as safe with the shotgun - but it does make the meal a little more crunchy.

I've had one on the Savage 24's since I was 11. One of my favorite guns. Mines a 20 ga under a .22mag. Handy gun. Look around, they are available in a lot of different versions.

It sounds like a great idea. Just dont start thinking u can hunt deer with a .410 slug. I know they make them and i know it is illegal, but i still have seen people and thier kids using 410 slugs. in order to drop a deer u would need a perfect heart shot just about but anywhere else is likely to be a cripple. but used strictly as a small game gun it sounds great!!!!!!!! never used one, as my first gun was good ole 12 gauge single shot. some models can take slugs too but if u choose this option get a recoil pad. even small game loads can kick pretty good.

My dad still has the old Savage 410/22. I spent many a day afield with that gun. I also let fly with the 410 thinking I was shooting a 22. What a riot. I was going to use it for deer hunting one year but couldn't hit a Sears catalogue at 100 feet.
