we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted July 1, 2005 we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted July 1, 2005 I play in a Dynasty Auction League modeled after the real NFL for the most part with rookie draft, contracts, free agency and an auction on Free Agents to complete your team before Labor Day. We each can keep up to 26 players - This includes defense. There are incentives not to keep players much like the real NFL and we do have a salary cap. We start: 1 QB 1 RB 3 WR/TE 1 Flex -RB/WR/TE 1 Special Teams/Kicker 2 DL 2 LB 2 S/C Here is my tema at this point with plenty of cap room: Green, Trent KCC QB Henson, Drew DAL QB Volek, Billy TEN QB Brown, Chris TEN RB Cobbs, Cedric NEP RB Johnson, Larry KCC RB McAllister, Deuce NOS RB Tomlinson, Ladainian SDC RB Lloyd, Brandon SFO WR McCareins, Justin NYJ WR Porter, Jerry OAK WR Watts, Darius DEN WR Rogers, Shaun DET DT Peterson, Mike JAC LB Sharper, Darren MIN S Wilson, Gibril NYG S Ravens, Baltimore BAL ST I won the Fantasy Bowl last year and it's a 16 team league. Down to Earth
Rick,I'm guess you were like me last year and road the backs of Larry Johnson and Volek at the end of the year to win your league. Plus the fact you have LT and Deuce doesn't hurt you any. On that note I think you should look to find upgrades at the WR position, especially since you start 3 each week. See if you can package the injury prone Brown for a WR via trade. What kind of WR free agents are out there in your league? You will probably need to find another QB as well for bye week also since Henson will be riding the pine in Dallas and McNair will be back in TN. Also since you won the league, does that mean you will have the last pick in the rookie draft?I'm also in 2 dynasty leagues. One is a 14 team league and sounds very similar to the one you are in and we are actually in the off season free agent auction process right now. The other is only an 8 team league in which we drafted a roster of 25 and we can keep up to 15 players. Both are entering their second year. I will post my rosters for feedback later when I have more time.Andy

we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted July 2, 2005 Author we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted July 2, 2005 I also had Marvin Harrison last year but put him back in the free agent market as I spent 30% of my salary cap on him. That's just too much. Especially when there are some pretty good younger players in the free agent market in our league this year. You are correct, I did ride Volek and Larry Johnson who both had very hot hands at the end of last season. Too bad for the Priest Holmes guys ehhh!!!I also had McNair last year but it was his free agency year this year so I either had to franchise him or let him drop. Down to Earth
Here is the roster of my other dynasty league team. It is a salary cap league structured like the NFL. Example if you cut a player you has years remaining on a contract you must absorb a portion of the contract for the remaining years. Its very detailed an in depth much like the one Rick is in. It is a 14 team league with a bunch of people I've never met run on CBS Sportsline. I finished the regular season strong, but ended up missing the playoffs. Here is my current roster. As of now its incomplete as we have just started our free agent bidding process and have yet to hold our rookie draft, in which I hold 3 first round picks. Unfortunately non of them are in the top 4. Brooks, Aaron QB NO Moss, Randy WR OAK Moulds, Eric WR BUF Vilma, Jonathan LB NYJ Udeze, Kenechi DL MIN Taylor, Sean DB WAS Williams, Madieu DB CIN Leftwich, Byron QB JAC Bennett, Michael RB MIN Lelie, Ashley WR DEN Scobee, Josh K JAC Gold, Ian LB DEN Williams, D.J. Pig_sticka
Cyber that should be a pretty tough team to play against. I got 2 teams drafted but I didn't get too lucky on them. I ended up with Collins on both teams so my team is about toast if he doesn't use his talent this year.
cybermuskie
Pig_sticka, It should be a fairly good team. I am up to 4 teams now and by the start of the season, I will probably have 8. See I work road construction, so I have a little time in the winter! lol This team I think is better than the other I posted. See what ya think.QB D. McNabb (Phi - QB) WR J. Walker (GB - WR) WR M. Pig_sticka
Cyber are you doing live drafts?I usually set up pre-drafts just for fun, but then 1 or 2 of them I do a live draft. Hard to get fully stacked doing a pre-draft but usually there is a sleeper or 2 still in the free agents.
cybermuskie
I just do auto drafts.I am on the road 6 days a week, so it would be hard to do a live draft.
TNFL
Aside from Mcgahee for $6 who else should I retain?Bell-$11Walker-$10Gonzalez-$12r. williams-$7 wrI'm thinking Bell, but what strategy should I use at the draft? Do I go after a(nother) big name RB, or do I target 2 top wr's and a top qb? I know I will be releasing Edge ($31) and Holt ($27) as they don't seem cost effective and I could probably get them for less at the auction. And I traded Horn for McAllister last year, so they will both be released. Daunte went for $49 last year so it would cost $54 to keep him so he should be released. But it will probably take at least $40 (too high) to land him in this "homer" heavy league.
Down to Earth
TNFL,I like your thought of keeping McGahee and Bell as they are inexpensive players who should be #1 RB on their teams. I always like RB depth, so I think would try and target a top RB. Bringing back Edge or Deuce would be nice. Any others out there you see being available? I'd probably go WR then. Depending on how your scoring is set up and feeling you don't want to overpay for C-Pep you can probably get a good QB for cheap (eg. Green, Bulger, etc.), as for after the top 2/3 there isn't much diffence between the next teir. Sounds like your in a Viking Homer heavy league, so I bet you could pick up Favre pretty cheap. What WR do you expect to be available? and what is your total amount allowed for salaries?? Pig_sticka
Culpepper is rock solid though for fantasy.I will second going with a RB. WR have their nights but RB do put up alot more pts. If it isn't a huge name WR, you wont get consistent pts from them. If you have to face people week in week out then you could lose a few games because of the inconsistency(sp) if your spending your bucks on them. TNFL
The CAP is $100. I know that Holt, Horn, and Walker will be available. I'm thinking I could have McGahee, Bell, Holt, Horn, and T. Gonzalez for around $75. That would leave $25 for a decent qb and backups.Actually there are 4 of the 12 teams that are Packer Backers. So Farve usually isn't cheap. The players in this league really over pay for qb's and top rb's so its tough to get a good one for a steal. In the past I have reciprocated by stocking my bench with talent. The problem is I have too many good players on the bench and no one will trade because then I would have a dominate team. Last year I drafted:Qb-Brooks, palmerRb-edge, faulk, jackson, mcgahee, bellwr-holt, horn, walker, r.williams, gardner, s.smithTE-gonzalezI can't remember my K or Def.Anyways, I finished 3rd in overall points and barely made it into the playoffs with the 8th seed. Although I did knock off the #1 seed, I lost the next week. This year I don't want to be so concerned with a strong bench but stud talent at the starter positions. Its seems that I have set myself up for an all or nothing season.
Jarrod32
Is that Steven Jackson - the Rams starting running back this year - that you have listed? Depending on his salary, he may be the guy to keep...
TNFL
Actually I didn't draft jackson, but because of fanball's goofy IR listing our commish said everyone could pick up another player in free agency first come first serve. So, I can't retain jackson because he had no dollar value as I picked him up a day or two after the draft.
Juan Grande
Assuming Javon Walker reports to camps, who would you rather keep on a $100 budget, Walker for $5 or Kevin Jones for $3?
Dave B
Regarding different formats, I have never heard of anyone doing it this way, and it would probably stink, but what do you think? You can draft ANYONE, whether they are on another team or not. BUT, if 2-4 teams start a player, you have to share the points. For example, 4 teams have Culpepper and 3 start him, he throws scores 30 points in your scoring system, but each team only gets 10 points each. Dumb? The main problem I see is collusion among teams, but if you could avoid that, it might be a good "diamond in the rough" kind of league. Someone has a hot year, and other teams would jump on that player too. So you need to constantly be looking for value. Feel free to call me a moron with the dumbest idea in the world, I have thick skin.
TNFL
First, I would keep Jones, he's cheap and he a RB. Walker is only as good as the guy throwing him the ball. Favre might not be around much longer, or Walker may skip town next year via free agency. Not only do I think jones is better, but he is much less riskier.Second, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Your new idea league sounds like a bezatch fest waiting to happen. Something similar to that would be to assign dollar amount to each player and then have a cap. You can pick whatever players you want as long as you stay under the cap. that would force you to have some sleepers. CBS does this for the playoffs and its kind of fun. I've also seen it done for fantasy golf, fishing, and racing.
Pig_sticka
Idea for the league isn't dumb, that would be a pretty strong word. Sharing points though would be very tough to do. That will take alot from the commish for one thing. And the regular leagues offer about the top anyway when it comes to scoring and league play. When you start with the crazier rules you probably wont find as many people interested in it. If it works then alot of props to ya.About time to draft a new set of teams I will post how I do. Last 2 teams I drafted I ended up with Kerry Collins as my qb on both. Could be good or bad, depends how he does with Mossy.
Down to Earth
Dave B,I have been in leagues like that. Smallworld, which runs off of The Sporting News server has a salary cap league like that, its called Salary Cap Football Challenge. I like to call it a stock market team. Here is the way it works. All players are assigned a $$ value, and each owner is given an initial $50,000,000 cap to work with. After week 1 games player values start to fluctuate up and down depending on how many owners are buying and selling that particular player. Thus your teams value fluctuates as well. Its actually pretty fun and challenging. If anyone is interested in doing a league like this on here let me know and I'll set one up for FMers.Andy

On paper, your WRs look good, but they're in some interesting situations. Can Burleson handle being the #1 option and matching up against the other team's best corner each week. Mushin Muhammad is now in the stagnant Chicago offense with Rex Grossman throwing him the ball. I love Roy Williams, but you have to wonder if having Rogers back healthy and the draft pick Mike Williams around will cut into his production.Benson and Collins are both good sleeper picks and Bettis is always an injured starter away from being a quality back.
