Best Musky lake in Minnesota?

Recommended Posts

I can't argue with Jon's list for big ones. Minnetonka and Bemidji are a couple others that could be included for size. There are some very small lakes in the state that I would say are the best numbers lakes. But because of their small size (a few hundred acres or smaller), I'm not going to mention them.

Hey if I answer this I'll be giving out secrets... haha

Jon list looks pretty solid.

Tough to say what's best cause things change so much, one lake can be on fire size and numbers while another lake 10 mintes away isn't doing a darn thing, then in the blink of an eye it can be the compete oppisite. Also a fishermans home waters tend to be the most productive (size and numbers) cause those are the waters they know best. On the other hand Mille Lacs will spit out a MN record REAL soon, only question is will the angler keep it.

I have to agree on that one, that is one pond that has been spitting out some nice fish. I would guess she is sitting right out in the middle livin' easy.

grin.gifI also think she will be caught on RED grin.gif (figured you were waiting for that RuKiddingMe)

I've got a red phantom Jon , that i think she is going to fall for tonight when i am up there......now the question is do i keep her or toss her back ? That would be a tough decision to make on the spot...No question it would go back if it wasn't a record for this guy, but there would for sure be another replica on my wall!!! Oh what i would give to have to make that decision. At any rate back to the question at hand i would have to agree with Jons list with Mille lacs and LOW probably at the top of the list. Leech lake is my personal favorite but don't know if the girth is always there now. I'm not going there on the numbers lakes because there are some small ponds that spit out some high quantities.

Vermilion Vermilion Vermilion!!! Say that fast 3 times!! I think for numbers and size. Seen many fish in that 53-57 inch range. The records gonna come out of there this fall if you ask me.

But I guess I think every lake with muskies in it is a good lake!!!

LOTW, Vermillion, Leech, Cass, Mille Lacs, would be my obvious big fish lake.

If I want numbers of 50+ Bemidji and area lakes.

And of coarse everyone has those hot lakes that no one wants to mention numbers and size.

We are all really something. smile.gif You could ask a musky fisherman what color and type of undergarment they were wearing and I’m sure several would go into great detail (please don’t blush.gif) Ask about lakes and we all suffer short term memory problems. wink.gif
