State Park shutdown - alternatives?

BLACKJACK

Recommended Posts

We have reservations over the fourth weekend at Crow Wing State park but now with the baboons down at the legislature not getting anything done, the state parks may be closed.

Any ideas on possible alternatives?

Only option I know of is to find a National Forest Campground winthin driving distance if possible. If they do shut down all the state parks its going to be hard to find a decent spot to camp this weekend frown.gif

A second opption would be to get every one with a ten or camper and go set up on the fornt lawn of the state capital and post signs telling these jack@sses to get the job done.

If it were only possible to vote everyone out of office maybe things could get done grin.gif

Very sad, I am really a fan of Pawlenty right now.

He is in the works of laying off my family and already layed me off as of last fall.

There are a few state parks in western Wisconsin if you are in need of a State Park. Otherwise I think about everyone is going to be hurt by this stuff.

With all the awesome republicans in office right now I am lovin it confused.gif Go Bush and Pawlenty. For some reason I am starting to think the American dreams and ways are starting to head down the drain.

Thanks for the ideas. Boilerguy, I'll keep that in mind, I have relatives in Wisc, we may want to make a swing thru there sometime.

Checked out a few websites yesterday, SD state parks and Corp of Engineers, problem I'm finding is that most of these campgrounds are full already, 4th of July weekend and all. And then we're stuck right on the June 30 deadline, we won't know til midnight whether they're closed. Do we make reservations elsewhere or not?? Them dammnnnn do nothing legislatures, do nothing for how many months, then run right up to the deadline. I wish the election was next month!!! I can see a lot of incumbants getting the boot!!

Its really a shame, but it isn't all pawlenty's fault either. It looks like both sides of the line are more worried about the election year comming up than they are about the budget. mad.gif

Time to quit playin politics and get the job done

My favorite part is shutting down the rest-stops, beginning with those that don't have flush toilets!! Maybe someone can help me out here, but why in name of all that stinks would they need to padlock outhouses????

Have they totally lost their minds?

As for state parks and reservations, if I had planned a vacation, blocked out the work schedule, etc., a bolt cutter to access the spot I had reserved would be finding its way to the camping gear right about now. Way I look it, the land is owned by the taxpayers, not some 2-bit bureacrat itching to stick it to everyone else so they can experience some of his or her misery.

How many of you remember the bus shutdown in Mpls a while back, or the last government shutdown? Seems like after the news outlets got over wetting their pants and predicting doom and destruction, by and large everyone shrugged, got on with their lives, and very few people even noticed that things were shut down.

Bummer for the employees, but they can all band together to thank Dean Johnson and Matt Entenza for giving them some time off.

There are a couple of really nice federal campgrounds in the Superior National Forest on the Echo Trail between Ely and Buyck, MN. One is at Lake Jeanette and the other is at Echo Lake. Both provide good fishing also.

Maybe instead of paying all the legislators "Overtime" pay for the extra session they should take away money each day for not getting the job done on time. That's what would happen in private business.

echotrail, not to barge into your BBQ, but I don't feel private business would take a small chunk from salary if the job didn't get done.

Most businesses I know of would fire their management staff, or lots of it, and start over, and get the job done without having to hear excuses for why it isn't getting done.

I herd on the radio this moring that the state parks will be oppen this weekend grin.gif

At least the boys and girls in St Paul keep the important things going.

I still think we should vote everyone out of office and start fresh tongue.gif

I just got off the phone with one of my DNR contacts that I do business with and he said that they just got word from the commissioner that the legislature passed a bill and the governor will sign it that will keep the DNR up and running.

Looks like we will be camping after all smile.gif Hope the losers at the capital get something done in the next week so the state workers laid off can get back to work. A week or two off wouldn't be bad but then when mortgage and car payments start coming up - some people will be hurting.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
