Has anyone else tried the mimic minnow? I used the mimic last weekend and had very good results on smallies.

I had two of them in my tackle box for a year but never tried them until two weeks ago when I was running low on shiners on Ottertail.I have to say I was very pleased with the results.Both walleyes and northerns were hitting the darn things.I hit Gander Mountain this week to pick up a variety of them.

I got some last year at cabelas on before my trip to Lake of the Woods. I have to say, they look and work really well. I had my limit of eyes so I tried casting them a few times in the shallows and got 3 smallies in just a few mins.

I've caught bass and northerns off them but not walleyes. They're not part of my "confidence" lure selections just yet.

They work. Plain and simple. I typically attach them to a spinner to really pump up the volume. Wish they made a 6" to 8" size for muskies.

Yes, that is the answer, they work and they work well, the work better with out bait added, and they work good how ever you fish them, dragged on the bottom, smimming them as a jig, using the spinners, they all work. I've caught many many 'eyes on them, they are my go to lure on the river.

I just started using them this year. I caught some very nice walleyes on pool 4 with them. I tried them on LOW for the opener as well. We were getting tons of bites on our jigs and shiners but coming up empty because of the lite bites. I got sick of checking my bait all the time so I threw the mimic back on. The walleyes absolutely pound these things. No lite bites. Three of us switched over to mimics and caught fish steady for over an hour. No more lite biters. I have several varieties but my favorite so far is a 3/8 firetiger with out the spin.

Did you troll those at the bottom at LOW? I am going to be up in Lake of the Woods in a few days and was just wondering how you fished them for walleyes.

At the time, I was just vertical jigging from an anchored boat. Give it a pretty good rip up from the bottom about a foot and let it settle. Jig it hard enough that you can feel the action in the tail. You can also pitch it out and retreive much the way you would any other jig and plastic. Let it sink, give it a good tug back, and take up the slack etc... Good luck on your trip.

I did the same last year up in Canada...tied on a mimic minnow with a spinner and just hammered the smallies and eyes! Funny thing was, I only had one body and had to make it last the whole day. Needless to say that thing was ripped to pieces
