Chufa

Hey fellas,

I was wondering when you are supposed to plant chufa. If you can plant it in the fall i think i might haveta buy some for the turkeys. It sounds like it works good and they tear it too shreds, so im goinna give it a shot! Thanks, Korey

Do a search on that plant on FM. There was a post a month or so ago saying that it is a noxious weed and you shouldn't plant it. I can't remember the details though.

It is also known as nutsedge, maybe yellow nutsedge??? I've heard that in some places it is consider noxious. I also know those southern boys on tv sure seem to like it. Never tried it myself.

I tried it last year, and had no success with it.

But I must add that I didn't do my "do diligence" with research and preperation either. Don't get me wrong I didnt just dump the seed on the ground and expect results. I just didnt do enough homework to make it work properly.

I have decided there are better things to plant anyway.

I wouldn't plant it. It is a terrible weed in most situations. Once you get it established you are going to have a real tough time controlling it. It can take over a site to the point you will not be able to plant anything else as it will smother it out.
