How many gals out fished the guys?

Recommended Posts

My wife out fishes me all the time. But then she grew on a resort in Wisconsin which give her any unfair advantage. I'm thinking about starting some kind of handicap system to level the playing field.

Well I better jump in here because my wife has a story just for such a topic.

Being a guide and all I take people fishing all the time and on the occasion I over look her for a partner when Im going out testing waters. Well any how...

A few years back, She was on this kick again and as I was heading out the door go hit the river to do some testing, she makes the comment, You take every one else fishing but you never ask me to go.. Well, of course I jumped on that right away and was more than happy to take her fishing and did so. I was not aware that she was really into fishing, I only thought she wanted to spend time with me.

Well, I take her to the river bank where I take clients in the boat and set up for catfishing. She maked a nice chair out of some rocks and settles in for an afternoon of hurry up and wait.

Some how she gets snagged up and I had to break off her rig. I of course was going to rerig it up for her but, nooooo, she can do it her self because she watches me all the time. Ok now Im feeling like a real turd.

Any how. As she is setting up her cat slip rig I notice that she is not using a catfish hook. Instead she has picked throught he tackle box and is tying on a small bait fish hook. Of course I step in and offer to get her the right hook. NOOOOOOO once again and I am reminded that she knows what she is doing... Ok, back to my rock I go....

She baits up this small hook on 30# mono and 50# braid with a six inch sucker. Of cours now she askes me to cast out the bait caster so she does not make a mess. I did it and again pouted back to my rock.

It was not 10 minuets later when she sets the hook and is pulling in this rod bending fish.. I tried to coach her on not pulling too hard with that small hook and she works it to the shore.. Needless to say, I jumped in the water and bear hugged a 33" walleye which ran about 13#. It is now on the wall in our house as the biggest Walleye I have ever touched. And of cours she has to tell every one that comes over which one she caught. As for cats, I just do not take her catting.. Why take the chance..??? LOL but when I do, I take her to the spots where the small ones hang out.. LOL.. wink.gif

I just had to reply to this post. I'm the one who usually out fishes my husband. He openly admits it too. Were out on Mantrap & 15 min. after unloading I got a 41". A bit later, 10 pound northern. Done this several times, on various lakes. This did not happen overnight. When I was a kid, we fished from the dock with bamboo poles. Never had a rod or reel til in late 20s'. Only fished once in a boat till 30s. As you notice, age doesn't bother me!!!

When we went from a 12 ft boat to the 17.5, my husb. said I had to learn how to trailer it, & back up. Well, 1.5 hrs of screaming, cursing & practice, I was able to load it from the lake. Bless the lord it was dead calm, a small lake, & only a couple of kids around. Sorry, never have gotten the backing up thing. Can do it, but very poor.

Stan is proud of me now, esp. when we came up out of nearly 5 foot rollers, & I could get it loaded. The looks on the men was awsome, didn't know I was the wife. (Big coat, hat, mittens, ). Come on gals, get out & fish..........Char

Char... when I started out backing trailers I used to have a hard time as well. My dad used to drive OTR and he told me to put my hand on the bottom of the steering wheel. If I wanted the trailer to go left move hand to left and right move had to right. The other thing to be mindful of is not to get into such a trun that you can not straighten back out without pulling forward. Works for me... ya may or may not want to try it. Have a good one././Jimbo

My wife out fishes me just about every time we go together, I guess I am her guide with riging up, baiting the hook, taking the fish off, running the boat, it sure is worth it though. I am just glad she doesn't like getting up early when I go out at 5am

for the gals going in the boat; my daughter used to take my rain coat. put it on around her mid section and zip/snap it shut. then she could drape it over the pail and herself. get things undone; go, and stay completely covered.

This year on our Canada trip I actually outfished my wife....first time for everything right? Of the 6yrs we've been together, this was the first time. confused.gif And all she does is sit there, no movement of the rod, no jerking when she gets a bite, doesn't play the fish...just hauls them in, and she rarely ever loses one! What's up with that??? Women's mojo maybe. tongue.gif

Anyway, I'm glad that she outfishes me. She doesn't come out fishing with me all too often, so when she does, I'm happy to have her do it. I've tried her fishing techniques, but she must be a pro at it cause I just can't get it to work. tongue.gif

My wife and I went fishing one time and she suggested we have a friendly tournament. The one that catches the first fish gets treated to dinner by the other. I was game.

It wasn't long before I had a fish on and hence caught the first fish. I don't know if I was wrong or not but she disputes my catch to this day. Unfortunately or fortunately depending on your point of view, when she defined the tournament rules all she said was first fish. She didn't specify species, size, etc.

Okay, my first fish was a walleye. Probably the smallest walleye I ever caught on a hook and line or ever saw for that matter. I know it was at least as big as the fathead minnow I was using for bait at about 5" long. Oh well, rules is rules and I got the free dinner! grin.gif

A couple of years ago I took my wife to a metro muskie lake. The week before I caught and released a 47" incher. Well, I let her use my secret lure and, wouldn't you know, she pulled in a 48" incher. She does this all the time!

All I can say is that she has a good guide!!
