Recommended Posts

Introducing The new "Carbon Tech Series"! This spinning series is being offered in a 7" med/fast and a 6'6" med/fast. I have seen the prototypes and these will be awesome Jig/rig rods.

Also introducing the "Big Jack Muskie". Available in a 8' heavy/med action, and a 7'6" med-heavy/fast action. These rods will handle all the big girls and get them back in the water fast.

Looks like an awesome line of rods and reels. That 7'6" Medium-heavy fast action baitcaster might just have to join my arsenal for pike this open water season smile.gif

Great pics too Brian!

I wouldn't doubt the quality and performance of JR's Tackle line of rods and reels. Being an owner of some of their ice-fishing equipment, I am very impressed! The pricing is not as high as some of the other lines out there....yet performance and quality is not sacraficed in JR's Tackle.

It is worth taking a look!

There store is located in Osseo right off of 169 in the Fleet Farm area, Crappie-Tom will be able to give you good directions, Matt probably will to, if you havent been there it is a must go! They have everything there a guy could want! and the people are super friendly to! I have spent hours in there just Bsing! I will definetly have to look at there rods, last time I was in there they showed me some prototypes and they looked awesome! I have one of there reels and it was a very good buy at $30 some I use it just as much as any of my more expensive setups and like it just as much!

JR's Tackle

8823 Zealand Avenue North, #A

Minneapolis, MN 55445

You can see them right off 169 just North of Fleet Farm. Look for the JR's sign on the window of the building...

Or else the words "Tackle Outlet."

From 169 you want to go East on 85th. Then take a left onto Xylon. Follow Xylon and take a left on Zealand. Follow Zealand until it starts to curve to the right and go left into the business centers. Follow that around to the front and you'll see JR's Tackle. The front entrance faces 169 and you can see it from the highway.

Rob is usually there out on the sales floor and he can answer just about any question you throw at him. Or else ask for Joel or Duane.

Good Fishin,

Matt Johnson

All those item was just a sneek preview. I saw the prototypes and was impressed so I thought I'd get a jump start.

I will post here as soon as they are in stock.

Matt,

That reel pictured above looks an awful lot like the new line of Okuma reels. Is that who is making those for JR's? I have fished with Okuma reels, for three years now along with Shimano, and I absolutely love the Okumas. They have the smoothest drags of any reels I have ever owned. Just curious.

Tom,

I'm not too sure about the specifics of the reel, BDR would know better than me...

Andy,

I'm not really a muskie angler, I rarely target them and I've caught a couple by accident while tossing for pike and bass. No trophy fish under my belt in the muskie category yet. Why do you ask?

Waltinader;

Not sure if you were asking Matt Johnson or myself, but since Johnson replied I will as well. My largest Muskie was caught last year at 49 1/2". It was a 20 minute battle, and the fish is still swimming in Lake Waconia.

Oh and to reply for how shopping went, I love that store, defiently gonna have to go back when the new models are released. Spent around $150 on gear.

    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
    • Sketti...  not out of a jar either!
    • Lol yeah I watched that
