Eastwind
A friend of mine and I will be at Muskie Bay on Crow in Nestor Falls from the 23rd to the 28th of May. Is there decent Walleye fishing on Crow? We planned to troll the shorelines of Crow for Lakers and then trailer to LOW for Walleyes.
jerkin'm
No walleyes in Crow. Great time of year to fish lakers on Crow though. Many ways to do it as well. Bank fishing, and trolling are a blast that time of year. Don't be afraid to troll around some of the shallow back bays for lakers either as that is usually about the time for the shiner run. Big jointed rapala's work good too.
Gissert
Eastwind -Talk to Paul about the possibility of making a portage trip into Cedar Tree off the northwest end of Crow. Paul has told me that there is a good walleye population in there.
Eastwind
Gissert, Thanks for the info on Cedar Tree. We might have to check it out. We are fishing Rowan, just East of Crow, this weekend for ice out Lakers and have done so for three years now on this same weekend. Silver and black Shad Raps, Jointed and original Rapallas have been deadly. Actually trhey are the only thing that we have gotten Lakers on at this time of year. I suspect that Crow will be the same or similar in two weeks. "I was cuttin' wood and heard the phone so I run"
Gissert
Eastwind -Good luck to you, let us know how you do."Ya, I been to Fargo to the hospital...."
jerkin'm
The last couple times into Cedar tree we didn't do squat. Once in the summer and once last winter. There is a theory on the netting doing some damage in there. Before you make the effort (it is a little effort) make sure you here good reports, not just Paul's wild goose chase guessing. (he has sent us on a couple) I like Paul a lot, but it is easy to get caught up in his talk'n and excitement.
Eastwind
Gissert, We fished Rowan on Saturday and Sunday. We did really well trolling steep shorelines and one reef 150 yds. off shore. Can't wait to hit Crow in two weeks. A pair a choppers????
Gissert
Eastwind -Nice going! I'll have to get up there some year during the open water season."Chest ball? No! Cash Call!"
BobG
Eastwind, Have fished Cedar Tree a couple of times without much luck. Be sure to find out how they are biting. From what I have heard (and experienced), either they are biting or the aren't (for me - not). Was curious what your water temperatures were like in Rowan? I will be just southeast of Sioux Narrows starting 5/21. We'll also be fishing for lakers in Dogpaw lake. Blue and silver shad raps seem to be best for us. I'll have to try the black and silver a bit more. We drive past Crawfords every year and stop for breakfast in Nestor Falls. Have a good trip!Bob in Rochester
Eastwind
BobG, I will have to try the blue and silver on our trip to Crow. You should also try crankbaits in white, yes just white, they worked well for us on Rowan this past weekend. Shad style and Storm Thunder style. We were fshing in a Zodiak so we had limited equipment. All that I can tell you regarding the water temp is that it was only about two weeks after ice out and still really cold. We will be on Crow from the 23rd to the 28th. We will split our time between Lakers on Crow and Walleyes on LOW. I will pass on Cedar Tree, not that Paul would ever get caught up in his own excitement and send a guy on a wild goose chase but I'd rather chase eyes on LOW in my boat. jerkin'm
Eastwind-Mention Weissner to Paul and see how great he thinks it is! He sent us on a snowmobile scratching, auger bashing, rollover, rock bouncing, goose chase into there 2 winters ago. Not even a bite.
Granny
8 of us fished Crow May 6,7,8 out of Crawfords. We caught 16 Lakers, 2 pike, and 2 whitefish. 3 largest fish went 7.2, 7.4, & 7.8lbs. No pigs but some decent fish. Nice weather and great fishing!Granny
Eastwind
Granny,Sounds like you had a great trip. Did you get them shore fishing, trolling or jigging? We will be up next week for four days split between Crow and LOW.
Granny
We caught most of our fish from shore. We did pick up a couple while trolling. I heard guys were doing good verticle jigging sonar or blade jigs. Good luck and let us know how you do.Granny
lumpy
Will be up at Crow on Memorial Day Weekend starting Friday as well, will be staying at Allens and fishing with a group from Crawfords. Last year I made my first ever trip over to Stephen's Bay and tried that out with some success jigging. Any tips or current info would be appreciated. If you want to get together some evening and chew the fat up there ask around for the Pecheks/Morgans or look for a Yarcraft.
Eastwind
We will be fishing on Tuesday through Friday and driving home on Saturday. We will be in a tan Crestliner. My handle on the marine band is "Eastwind" and I will probably be monitoring channels 69 and 16. I'm not sure if I will be on Crow or LOW on Friday but give me a yell if you have a radio and I will give you a fishing report to get you started if I read you. Either way, stay safe and have fun. lumpy
I'll be arriving Friday afternoon. Will crank up my marine radio then. Have great week fishing there. First time I brought my fishing buddy up there he said it looked like the Hamm's bear commercial. Gotta love it.
Eastwind
Well, we did okay on the Lakers. Two of us got six fish in two days of trolling Crow. Also spent two days on LOW and I don't think that I even got a bite. My friend got two very small eyes and a small smallie. Beat working though. Kingfisher
We fished Crow yesterday, three of us caught five lakers from 5-10#, from 8:30-2:00, we fished from shore in 37 to 50 fow, so the trout are still up.
