Shad rap
I was reading on one of the pages that the cat fishermen saying the best bait for flatheads where bullheads. That got me thinking is it legal to use bullheads as bait in MN. so I called the DNR and they said it was legal to use bullheads as bait up to 7" long. has anyone ever used baby bullheads for walleye fish? I know they use willow cats in Mississippi and do well on them and they are spendy to buy. they look darn close to a baby bullhead. Looking for input? walleyewacker
DO IT. Especially in our area like kandi and diamond. I am going to try those salmo bullhead cranks too.
cmoredrakes
You also can use baby bullheads as bait for walleyes, too 'cause they have no scales so their soft and chewie. So, every time I get a baby 'head in my minnow bucket, consider it a bonus . ---Livin' large at 14---
Mike Walerak
There used to be a bait dealer that had baby bullheads mixed in with the fatheads. I used to pick them out and use them on Pool 4 and had pretty good success with the walleyes and the occasional smallmouth.mw

Muddog
Take a side cutter with you and snip off the three sharp spines from the fins. Make it easy for the fish to get the hook in it mouth. In mid April I heard that people were hooking up with up to 9lb Eyes at the mouth of a creek that joined with the Mn river while fishing with Crappie Minnows. I walked the creek and found that small bullhead 3-5" long had swam up the creek as far as they could. It doesn't take much to find out why the Bullhead were there and what the Walleyes were eating. CALVINIST
If you know that walleyes are foraging on small bullheads, I would suggest using a black twister tail. My brother tried this on a lake where bullheads are eaten by eyes in the fall, and cleaned up on the hawgs.
Redwalleye
On a parallel note, Black and gold rapalas have worked for me when the eyes are going after bullheads. good fisin
