BPS extreme rods

For a single all-pupose pole for my young teenagers to bring to Canada or elsewhere, for smallies and walleye, someone suggested the Walleye Angler series in medium, while another suggested the BPS Extreme series while on sale. Any advice on these for around $50 to $60? Thanks!!

My personal favorite for certain situations (putting on flame suit) is an UGLY Stick. I think it would be a great rod especially for a youngster. Most are 2 piece as well so storage and transportation is easier. I grew up on the ugly stick because my dad thought they were the rod that could take the most abuse. I still use them to this day for some of my fishing. I prefer the "ugly stick light" line of rods for the thinner diameter blanks and nicer cork handles. I use them for my shore fishing rods in BWCA and Canada where I would normally be nervous about knicking a graphit blank on rocks or where I just need a rod that I don't really have to worry too much about (such as fishing on a pontoon with a bunch of buddies). It's not going to snap getting unstuck from rocks or trees (Unless you are using some type of heavy superline you might break it then) and the sensitivity isn't all that bad. I'd get my youngsters ugly stick glass rods if I had youngsters! (some day) When they are old enough to appreciate and care for a more expensive graphite rod then move them into one. Just my opinions though.

I would go with the Extreme...they are a very good quality rod for the money...Bass Pro has other rods too that may be just as good..check their HSOforum and see what else they offer...i personally have 4 of the Extreme rods and I am very happy with them.

I am laughing at the Ugly Stik post as I too think they are a great rod for some situations, very tough and versatile......For top water with braid I love em....Mucho fun to play a Smallie on.

although most of my rods are BPS bionic blades and i love them; for a kid,( especially if they are a beginner) i would vote for the ugly stick. i hav enever used one, but i've talked to many people that have them. maybe not as senitive, but very durable.

Im gonna give the old reliable Uglysticka go as my crankin rod this year, I figured its perfect for that cause you dont need the feel! I have used them a lot in the past and they are very durable, you could haul up a 20 pound boat anchor with one, they dont have the best sensitivity but you dont need that in every situation!

Thanks much guys! Sorry to not reply earlier as I was traveling. Great ideas. Also, I had an ugly stick for years - good for casting cranks, spoons spinnerbaits, etc., but not very sensitive for jigging, tubes, etc. I have not tried the Lite version though.

I too have had good luck with the BPS Extreme for the money.

I am pushing it a bit to make one rod work for all.

Any experience with the Walleye Angler Series?

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
