Cajun Red Line

I've heard good things about Cajun Red... but it leads me to this question.

If people are going to red hooks because of the red being such an attracting color to use, wouldn't the red line be just as visible to the fish? Or is it like a Berkley Vanish thing, where it "loses" it's color when it gets into the water? confused.gif

The old red color in water debate; does it attract fish, or become invisible?

On some of the muskie forums, I've read that the color red disappears, turning to grey or black under water. In'Fishermna has an article about the color spectrum, I haven't read it yet, but will do so soon, before the Opener.

I do know that at time, a red hook will outperform a natural hook, but was never really sure why.

I honestly can't tell you If it becomes invisible or if it attracts. I bought one spool of 10 lb to tie up some bait rigs and a few spinners and I'm very pleased with that application. I have not spooled it yet but I have fished with a few who have and they are pleased with it.

I don't think it is the "magic" line by any means but it's worth a try. Last I checked it was cheaper than most monos and every flurocarbon out there. I think it catches fisherman but I feel it's a good product.

I heard a lot about Cajun line so I picked some up last year. I thought it would be good for ice as well. Unfortunately the line isn't very good. It has A LOT of stretch and has some memory as well. If you go to a store to look at the line pull out a couple feet, hold the ends, and pull. You'll see what I mean about stretch.

Good Luck,

I was down in Owatonna on Saturday... talked to a couple of their fishing guys. Seems that the line turns to black underwater... which leads me to believe that the red hooks would do the same. Maybe it's just the flash that you get off of the hook, rather than the color itself. Another one of them things that catches fishermen as much as fish, maybe?

SO.. with that said, even with some success with red hooks last year, after checking on colors that fish see better, I think I may switch to green or blue hooks, just to see if it makes a difference. cool.gif

I used Cajun Red last summer for leaders on my Lindy Rigs in 6# and 8# tests.

In the stained waters on Vermilion I have had very good luck with it!

It is very strong for it's dia. The only draw-back is that it is hard to get a good knot unless you wet the line.

A surgeons knot works well.

Thanks Cliff. Now I'm kind of kicking myself for not picking some up. tongue.gif

I might have to give it a try this year, especially after your report and the talk I had with the guy from Cabela's explanation of the color differences with the line vs. the hooks.

I tried the cajun red 6 lb for walleye fishing last year. I personally wasn't that impressed. I thought it had alot of memory and it wasn't very limp in my eyes. I went back to old standard trilene. I guess you can call me old-fashioned but if it works why change.

I just spent a couple days fishing with some borrowed reels spooled up with the cajun red line. I don't care for the stuff at all - I won't ever be putting it on my reels. As others mentioned, the stretch and memory is terrible. And the line didn't seem very strong either, but with that much stretch that's no surprise.

This is my second year using the red line and I have yet to have a fish break it. I have only used it casting for panfish and northerns so far but I will try it trolling this summer. The stretch can be a good thing, last year i used 12 lb eagle claw line and it was tough stuff but fish kept spitting the hook out because it didnt have much stretch.
