Fox gun

Recommended Posts

You know it would be fun to get together at a range some were. Have on hand a .223, .222, .17 hrm .17rem .22rm and a .22 hornet. Shoot some wet newspapper and see what shows up at 100, 150 and 200yds.

By the way, with the .17rem take a boar snake with you and us it often.

Hey Cooter

(I just don't think trading the .223 for the .17 is gonna help you out. The two rounds are similar enough that you probably will still have some pelt damage)

Guessing you never taken or seen a fox shot with the 17rem before.Pelt damage is next to O with the 17rem.Also those 2 rounds are not even close to 1 another.

We all have opinions and we all have proven facts of are own i sure will stand by the 17rem.For myself this is 1 cal i'll always have and use 99% of the time.It has proven itself time and time again.Long range shooting is like any other cal you gotta shoot to find the magic.Windy days is like well it drifts but dont they all you just gotta shoot away.Sooner or later you'll figure out where the mark is on those windy days.

Good luck on your 17rem happy hunting i'm sure you'll be pleased with what ever model you choose

All your posts and responces have been greatly appreciated. I will say again however that I am undecided AGAIN on what to get this summer. If you guys ever get together and go to the range and do some testing, please do let me know.

negative on the eye fishing up here. But the halibut fishing, salmon fishing, dolly and rainbow fishing, crabbing through the ice, spring and fall duck and goose hunting MORE than make up for the eye fishing.

Good luck this weekend, I still do miss opening weekend. And I am still looking forward to a few weeks of Eye fishing in early june this year back in the home state.

I have a bit of experience with the .17rem. I suggest it as a fox round and will also work well on coyotes if you are careful on your shot placement. Between my partner and I, we've killed a truck load of foxes over the years. Wind drift is certainly NO worse than a .223 at normal shooting ranges for foxes. It shoots as flat as a .22-250 out to about 300 yards. Fur damage can get ugly if you fringe an animal but that's the case with anything. Nothing is good in that case. The .17 rem is ALMOST perfect for foxes.

Here's some pics of some foxes from my HSOforum.
