Crestliner Rod Storage?

I'm looking for suggestions on improving the rod locker in my 1750 Fish Hawk. I'm trying to figuring out a way to keep the rods from becoming a tangled mess in the locker. I'm kicking around the idea of using PVC pipe for rod racks. I'm not sure if I should mount the racks horizontal or vertical? I'd like to store 6 rods if possible, 4 might be more realistic. Any suggestions from anyone who's already crossed this bridge would be greatly appreciated.

They have rod sleeves at cableas that are pretty AWESOME for keeping rods untangled, there about $7 a piece.

I have the 1850 sportfish and don't like the lockers at all for storing rods with reels. I'm going to mount a vertical rod rack in the back of the boat. I've seen it in other Crestliners and it seems to work well.

Ahhhhhh, the age old rod storage problem. I have a 1750 tiller so I’m not sure how well this solution would work in a console boat but this is what I did………

I screwed a couple of 1 ¼ inch PVC caps to the back of the rod storage compartment. Then insert about 8 inches of pipe into that for the butt of the rod. Then farther forward I mounted nylon straps with Velcro to an aluminum support. I use these straps to hold the rod in place. I got the straps at West Marine and they are normally used to tie down extension cords to docks so they have a nice metal grommet to screw it to the aluminum. Since my boat is a tiller, I was able to do this same thing under the gunwales on both sides of the boat and one more set in the cockpit area. I have a total of eight in the boat.

I get my boat from storage in the next few days and could send pics next week sometime if you need them.

I have an 1850 Sportfish, Here is what I did. I took two short pieces of 2x4 and four 20" pieces of pcv. I cut two holes in each of the 2x4's with a hole saw that you use with a drill. They were the same size as the pcv pipe. I cut a slot in the top of the pipe for the reel stem to slide into. That keeps the rods from spinning around in the holder. Then, I pounded and glued them into the 2x4's. I spray painted them the same color as the interior. I mounted them in the rear of the boat using two screws. One tight to the side of the boat by the live well and the other on the other side. That way when I run with the top up I can still have my rods neatly stored and out of harms way.

I haven't done it yet but I was going to put one rack in the rear of the boat, passenger side. I just bought the berkley vertical rod racks and still need to figure out exactly how I'm going to install them. I'll post pics when I have it done.
