A Microsoft Excel spreadsheet would work for that. Create a worksheet for each outing and you could program it output graphs based on the statistical info you've entered. You might see some interesting trends.

I use Excel and it works nicely. Just started this fall and cannot believe what I see. Its amazing what you forget over the course of a season. Date, Lake, Loc, Depth, Species, Size, and Comment are all included. It would be nice to include the pressure and moon phase but thats a little much for me. Have fun

gspman,

I think you and I have way too much in common except I am a lab guy grin.gif. I use the Excel spreadsheet also and its nice to be able to add columns and like you said, make graphs out of it. You can also do sorts for any of your columns. I added a column to mine this year that shows the number of 18"+ Bass caught on each outing. It will be nice to see which lakes produce and what time of year. I also keep a running tab on the total number of lakes I have ever fished. I think I remembered all of them but who knows. I just make a few basic entries for future reference.

Granny

I don't currently keep a journal but if I did I'd just do a fancy excel sheet. It'd be perfect for it and if you do it right it's extensible, reuseable and modular and all that good stuff and could easily be converted into a hunting journal. Only nerds like me know this stuff. grin.gif Oh and Granny, there's still time to come back from the dark side (or is it chocolate or yellow side?) and get a pointer. wink.gif

I fish too much to worry about hunting much any more. My pup is mainly going to be a family dog. And beside, the wife said yellow lab, so that means yellow lab!
