Bobberboy
I've been fishing and catching a lot of pan fish in the last couple of weeks. I notice after unhooking several fish in a day the skin on the end of my index finger and thumb gets a black stain on them. Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone know what causes it?"Your bobbers down!"

FisherDan
We have seen the same thing happen to us. We thought it was from the mud minnows that we would catch or maybe from the wax worms. No it does not wash off it goes away in a few days. Anyone got any info on this? Dan

Scoot
I can diagnose this problem- sounds to me like you've got the clap. The fish clap!
Bobberboy
No I can't find anything that takes it off. It seems to wear off after a few days. No I don't chew and I always practice Safe Fishing so I'm confident its not fish FTD. Although, I may start wrapping the rascles so they don't turn black. "Your bobbers do wn!" Dan Thiem
FTD, that's funny! Why just the thumb and index finger and not the rest of your fingers or hand?
WAG416
Never had problem with black stuff, but my index and thumb get really, really dried out. It's like touching the fish pulls out all the moisture out of my fingers. I havent filleted or touched a fish in almost 2 weeks now and my skin is just turning back to normal. I may have an FTD.WAG
wall eyell be
Didn't your momma warn you this would happen if you "handle your fish" too much?
The Grebe
Have you been fishing anywhere near a nucular power plant? When you get this stuff on your fingers, have you ever tried holding it up to a black light? Do you have access to a Geiger Counter? Have you noticed, or experienced any unearthly glowing, or weird humming noises? Any of these fish ever talk to you, or take off running across the ice, once they are unhooked? Just to be on the safe side, you might want to wear some of those fish gloves and carry a long handled hammer with you in case some of those stainers try to take over! And just to make you feel a little better, they found Mulder! Solution to problem: Don't fish there anymore...does'nt sound healthy!
FisherDan
LOL you guys are too funny. I tend to think it is some kind of reaction to the wax worms or there guts. Thumb and index finger is what I use to put them on. Sometimes over a hundred a day. Dan
Wayne Ek
I have the same problem. I agree, I think it is from the wax worms or the bedding they come in. Always the thumb and index finger, more at the tip and under the nail. I have had good luck removing it with lava (liquid form) and crest tooth paste with whitener. This is the same concoction I use to remove fish smell after cleaning fish.
