Handgun ???

Is having one of these permits still a requirement? What about NICS checks? I had a permit several years ago and am thinking of getting the new Ruger .45 auto. Do I need to get this permit or will a NICS check be enough?

Yes, you still need the "Permit to Buy". If you get one at the local law enforcement. You fill out the application, submit it, they will then mail you the permit after the background check is done and after the waiting period, as mentioned above by Ole. That permit is good for 1 year.

If you fill it out at the gun store, you will then have to wait for the background check by the local law enforcement, plus do the waiting period. That one is only good for that purchase, I believe.

BTW...You still have to do the NICS check at the gun store.

Plunked some $$ down on a Ruger .45 at Gander last night and applied for the purchase permit this AM. In Blaine they mail you the permit. Should have new toy in a week or so.

The police or sheriff will issue a Permit to Aguire Hanguns in Minnesota. Be sure to go there if you want to buy more than 1 gun. Dealer can do it also but you can only buy 1 gun and it will be from them only. The permit is good for one year. The waiting period (from my experence has been the time you apply for the permit in which the law enforcement delays mailing it to you. I have been able to buy guns on the spot with the permit but the dealer still does the NICS check on you. Most time the NICS check only take 5 mins. There is sometime a delay though. Just besure all your info is right or there will be a delay.

Did you happen to buy the new P345? I'm looking at that model myself.
