10 pointer found dead

might want to give the DNR a call or an email on that one...I would bet that you would need a tag to transport a full head like that. If you were just interested in the antlers, I'd say cut 'em off and don't worry about it, but I think taking the head as well poses a bigger debate. its your call.

I was hunting Wyoming a while back and the day before openning, I found a buck that someone had poached and taken the rear quarters from. I cut the horns from it to make knife handles. When I was leaving the state, I was stopped by wardens for a game check. One of them picked them out of my truck and I explained how I had found them. He sniffed them and commented on how it had been dead longer than I had been in the state and put them back in the truck. I imagine he could have got me for something but he was reasonable since I hadn't poached it. Some other warden might not have been as understanding.

I found a turkey that was just hit by a car and I called the dnr. They said I could keep it for mounting only and I would need a tag. They didn't charge me a dime for it and we did it all over the phone. In about 3 days I got the tag in the mail. grin.gif

Just to be safe I would contact your local CO, you may get by with just taking it and have no problems??? Or the local warden's will usually work with you when you give them a call.
