Here's the first one that CrappieTom is volunteering to do, even though it's in April - that is very good as well.

CrappieTom would like to invite others out for a clean-up and fishing afterwards.

Saturday April 9. Rochester's Silver Lake Park and Zumbro River from the Seventh Street Bridge to the 19th Street Bridge. Shoreline clean-up.

Once a week I drive from the little Maple Lake access all the way across Maple to the beach access, and clean up, what i see laying around. Now that it is getting nicer out, and out scouting out other lakes I always stop to pick up what is laying around. I can not understand why people can not pick up there junk. and use a ash tray for there cigs. Thats(JMHO).

[i started a topic in the Metro Forum for those who wish to respond]

I would just like to announce the Late Ice Metro Get Together. Because of all you dedicated FMers and all the fun I've shared with all of you this winter, I'd like to end the ice fishing season with day filled with fishing and fun. So, I'd like to invite all of you for a day of fishing on Medicine Lake. We can spend a good portion of the day fishing the late ice panfish bonanza and then we can spend the later part of the day cleaning up the ice. Here's the details...

Medicine Lake, Saturday, March 12 at the West Medicine Lake Park Access

8am to 2pm will be the panfish bonanza

2pm to 4pm will be the lake clean-up

4pm will be a BBQ/cookout

This will be a great chance to share the fish stories of the 2004/2005 ice fishing season as well as maybe add a few more smile.gif

Late ice brings with it some incredible panfishing opportunities, and we should see our fair share of panfish caught throughout the day.

I'll be there to guide for free for anyone who needs help, as will several other FMers. This doesn't cost a penny, it's just a chance to cash in on the awesome late ice fishing and a chance to take care and clean-up one of our more well-known Metro lakes and one of the locations of our 2005 ICE Series.

Joe Harty will also be there to enjoy the day with us and we can also show him our support for all the hardwork he has done this winter.

I'll provide all the garbage bags. You just need to bring something to toss on the grill and something to drink (along with your fishing gear).

I'm looking forward to it. I hope to see a lot of you there! smile.gif

Good Fishin,

Matt Johnson

Hey Rick

I live across from Big Lake in WI. On Sunday I drove around the lake on my four wheeler and picked up almost a full bag a trash. One gentlemen drove up to me in his truck and said "What are you doing" I said picking up trash. The look on his face was priceless. He looked embarresed and jumped in his truck and drove away. Made my whole day. grin.gif

I've heard that often others who knew nothing about picking up trash events just joined in once they saw others doing it.

These are great guys. My dad and I were out a couple weeks ago and picked up some junk left by other groups. He made the comment that you dont see a third of the stuff you did years ago. So thats good too but there still is some out there. We looked for some but didnt find much. Hope you guys have a great time.

Rick: was out and picked up a little lake named Silver Lake just east of Arlington were I live. While picking up,I noyiced there was not a garbage can at the landing.Iam going to call the local conversation officer and see if he will give me permission to put a can at the landing. If you want you could ship me a F.M. decal, and i could put it on the can along with the garbage sign.

I was thinking about this and if everyone would take a few minutes and clean up the landing at your lake every time you went there, the need for the lake clean-ups would not be needed, kind of like adopt a lake program. All it would take is 10 minutes every time your done fishing for the day.

Well, I had a great time today! I got to meet a few new faces as well as hang out with some familiar ones. It was great to see everyone pitching in a cleaning up the lake, I think we left the place spotless when we were done! smile.gif Several bags of trash when all was said and done...

The powwow after picking up the trash

We also spent a good portion of the day chasing down some pannies. Not a whole lot of big sunfish and crappies but we did manage to watch a few bass and pike take our jigs while site fishing...

Today was a pretty successful day. We cleaned up the lake, caught some fish and had a lot of fun hanging out and enjoying a day on the ice!

Thanks to everyone who made it to Medicine Lake today and enjoy the rest of the ice season! smile.gif

Good Fishin,

A day starting with trolling Park Point for all the predatory fish of our beloved smelt. Followed by a cook out on the shores of Lake Superior and a clean up to follow along Park Point. Then finish off the evening with a few pulls of a seine for those ever elusive smelt.

I've talked with a few people and checked last years posts and came up with a date of 4/20/05. This lands on a Wednesday. Seems the folks I have talked to can make this date but if it doesn't work, well then back to the drawing board.

Check The BWCA-DULUTH-RANGE forum for more info.
