Big Foot?

tomfromblaine

Question

Ok guys since I can't make the 3/18 low/rainey get together, I do get to go 4- stroke outboard shopping,my question is Merc makes a motor labeled as big foot, what is this? what are the pro's/con's, also if I can get a good deal on a model 1-2 years old should I go for something like that. I'm also looking at a couple other mfg'rs. I've done some research but I'd like some of you guys input before I start asking the sales guys questions, (I think we've all been there before.grin.gif) thanks in advance for your input.

We got a 25hp Big Foot last May. I spent 10 hours breaking it in before opener. I followed the manual to the letter. On opener it started leaking oil. Long story short, after being accused by Linc Bro. of revving it too high during breakin they exchanged it for a 25 2 stroke.

I called them this fall about the 4 stroke, they told me that Mercury had determined that the block had been cracked during manufacturing. mad.gif

By the way I am very happy with the 2 stoke.

Thanks that is the info I'm looking for, I'm using a web site I heard of where you can get new-noncurrent motors for a decent price and compare to what I can get locally. I like the Merc's but from what I've read so far they seem to be the heavyest of the bunch, I'm glad I asked because I'm looking for a regular boat motor. any other input would be great. grin.gif thanks again.
