Brown Trout Record!

That's one eye-popping brown trout that Timmy Johansen pulled in last week from the Garrison Dam Tailrace on the Missouri River in North Dakota.

Johansen, of Beulah, N.D., caught the record 35.5-inch monster, which weighed 31 pounds, 11 ounces, using a jig and minnow on 4-pound-test line. It shattered the state brown trout record that has stood for 18 years - a 25-pound, 4-ounce fish caught by Dean Malenius of Eveleth, Minn., in 1987.

I heard about the big trout coming out of there a while back. Rainbows too I guess. Its been on my places to go list but thats a long list! I'm going out to the Yellowstone River this year...Now I'll have to stop down at the "tailrace" on the way!

I believe this is wisconsins current state record Brown trout. It 36 lbs 8.9 ounces.

WOW!!! What a trout!

That NoDak trout is much better looking than those Great Lakes run browners. To take that fish on 4lb test is almost amazing.

Now if we could only get LTM here in SE MN to produce fish like that.

Anyone that makes it out to Door County this summer will have a legitamite chance to catch a monster brown. My buddy caught one about 16lbs last year, and we heard of a guy that caught one close to the record while we were out there.
