Sunglasses?

I got a basspro shops sale cataloge and noticed they have Bassmaster sunglasses on sale for $10. Have any of you guys ever had a pair of theese, if so did you like them. I am the kind of guy that looses sunglasses or sits on them once a year. So spending a lot on them does not make sence, a decent cheap pair is the way to go for me. thanks, ff

I likewise loose or break a few every year also. I have bought several cheap pairs of polarized sunglasses (stike king, etc.) and they seem to almost work worse for reducing glare. I don't know about the ones in particular or if expensive ones work. I just buy glasses that fit comfortably and block the sun.

I used to loose & break sunglasses until I bought a better pair (around $30) and found that I take better care of them. One good alternate place to get a really good pair of sunglasses a little cheaper is in the Walmart optical shop. They have quite a few different styles of polarized sunglasses which are of really nice quality for $24-$34. I bought a pair last year and really like them.

I've been told by many different people that the typical markup on sunglasses is more than 2x so I don't spend too much on them. Also, pay attention to the color of lenses you buy. I like amber but also have had good luck with moss green. Most people I've talked to say Moss Green is the best for bright sunny days. If they're a different lense color, that might be why you didn't have good luck with your other glasses.

One more thing, you want to make sure that your glasses wrap around your face really well or else you'll get a lot of glare from the side.

I'm on the other end of the spectrum.. Then again I get to fish probably about 150+ days a year... I have 3 pairs of CostaDel Mar Fathum I believe they are called... To me its a night and day difference between what you get for what you pay... I too was a little careless till I spent more on a pair.. now I treat them like gold.. The reason I have 3 pairs is for different water and light conditions... Gray( very bright), AmberVery dark/clowdy, Vermillion (inbetween)....

Like most others I try not to spend big $$ on glasses - I'd rather put the cash toward tackle or new rods/reels. I did buy a pair of the BassMaster sunglasses and they are not bad at all but I like the ones I got off the rack at Walmart better - not from optical dept. Tight wrap-around and light with polarized lenses. They haven't flown off even at 70 mph over the water! They were about $24/pair I think.

I would like to find different lense colors though - I am certain that it makes a HUGE difference to get a good pair just like getting a good rod makes a HUGE difference.

Sunglasses are like any other aspect of fishing. Just like a quality rod out performs a cheaper model, it is the same with sunglasses. I used to use the Bill Dance shades. Then I got a pair of Solar Bats----sorry Bill--- no comparison.

I really like the Solar Bats, they have interchangeable lenses. Will never go back to cheap.

My first pair of higher quality sunglasses were H2Optics by serengetti eyewear. The same glasses I bought about 5 years ago were $100 and now they are about $60 in cabelas. They are great because they weigh under an ounce and offer 100% uv protection. When I got cheap sunglasses they were usually heavier and didn't block out the sun like higher quality glasses. They are cheap compared to cataract surgery or a flying 1/2 oz jig that makes you lose your eyesight. I've upgraded since then to costa del mar glasses. If you spend a little extra you can get good looking glasses that you can use all the time. I also enjoy them in the winter for taking the glare off of the snow when I'm driving.

Deitz--->

i have been looking at the Costa Del Mar sunglasses. i am about ready to buy a pair and am trying to decide which lenses to get, the Wave 400 or the Wave 580. the Wave 580 are better quality and i think i may get them, but just looking for another opinion.

Sami-The wave 580 is thier top of the line in lenses out there... They are a tad pricy, but if you can afford it, your eyes will thank you. I myself, have just the Wave400 in my 3 pair of Costas.. and the reason I went that rout was there were more color lense choices... I think in the 580 you only get Grey and Copper... In the 400 I think there is 6 differnt color lenses and that includes amber, vermillion ECT... Try a pair of the Fathoms on.. I love the way they fit!!!.. might not be best for you, but they sure were for me.

"Go get yourself some Cheap Sunglasses" (ZZ Top) grin.gif Sorry I couldn't resist. Last year I picked up a pair from Wal Mart because I like to loose or break sunglasses often. They were under 10 dollars and were polarized! Later while using these glasses while fishing with my bro-in-law I asked him if he saw all the schooling baitfish. He had on some "other" glasses and couldn't see them. I gave him the glasses and he saw the clowd of baitfish. I'm sure that the Costa's are awesome, I've heard from others, but I just can't justify spending over 100 bucks for sunglasses.

Good Luck,

Corey Bechtold

Deitz...

yes, they only make the 580's in Gray and Copper. i still think i want to get them because the optical quality is better. probably better for my eyes as well. i will gladly spend the money for something good.

i think the Fathoms is the way i will go. they have a longer temple measurement (133mm compared to 125mm on the Pescador's). which should work on my big head tongue.gif

If you try a decent pair of quality glasses you will see the difference... Thant sounds like an advert or something. Anyway, I have a pair of Solar Bat cool eyes R with three interchangeable lenses (grey, mossback green, amber) one of the best investments I made for fishing and work. Just my .02

Amber or vermillion lenses bring out the green colors in clear water. I also like this color when making boat runs at low light conditions, no need to take them off and get the wind blast. Grey lenses give you better sight in muddy or stained water conditions. Amber is my choice for 99% of MN fishing. You may not always be able to see the fish with polarized glasses. The ability to see underwater structure or the gills flare when they pick up your bait will make you a better fisherman.
