We hunt for them in SW MN.

You can use your canadians but you do want to have some snows out there. We put out anywhere from 100-800 decoys.

All else fails buy some texas rags.

You can put a white sock over the heads of you canadians to make them look like blues.

Just get a close to the MN and ND or SD border as you can.

Good luck hope this helps

Hey ya Matt,

Yeah I was wondering if any would swing through west of here but no one I know has seen any out that way. Saw some in the fall up by I falls, Warroad and Baudette. Very rare in our area. Occasionally we see em north of Fosston any word of the TRF area.

Actually for snows, this year was the first fall in many where we have not had THOUSANDS of snows to hunt out there. I did see a couple nice flocks North of town and some smaller ones south but nothing like years past. Shoot me an email and I will give you exact directions to where I went last year. I'll be in nodak most likely.

Take care

There appears to more and more snows every year in the Western half of the state. Either the migration is beginning to shift a little or there are more birds. I realize weather plays a major role in migration patterns but each year I see more and more. That leads me to believe the migration is shifting to the East a bit which is good for us MN hunters. The groups I take out have had more opportunities every year, particularly in the Fall. Snows and blues are getting more "huntable" as far a numbers go. Three years ago while hunting in ND, I was on to two large groups (about 30,000 in each group) and hunted them as they milled back and forth from the groups. Guess what....I could see MN from where I hunted. I was less than two miles from the MN border and the majority of birds were headed for MN grounds. There are huntable numbers, particulary in the Western half of the state. Good luck all!

jblabsnduck: If you or your group has any room this year I wouldn't mind comeing along? I will be hunting SD again this spring but wouldn't mind trying a little MN action also.

I have a bunch of snow shells and Northwinds and access to alot more.

Ray, yup I know Doug. No worries, I think he's a cool dude. I sure wouldn't want his current job, however. My wife made his campaign buttons. Most of the snows last spring were hanging around his farm and the big slough area.

I'll keep all yous guys posted when they show up. Maybe we can have an FM snow shoot.

Seriously guys, we should try and put this together. Of course it would depend on the weather and when the birds show up, but I think it would be worth the gas money/ $3.50 license fee to get together with the guys on this site and have a chance to kill some white geese. I'm sure we could put a hurt on some of them if we found the right field to sneak / pass shoot on.

Let me know...

DECOY DECOY DECOY!!!!!!

there is no reason to sneak or pass shoot here in MN.

I am not saying it is wrong to do I am just saying that birds decoys pretty good here in MN since they don't get pounded on every day like the do in the rest of the states.

Decoying them is the only way we do it.

Yeah I too would rather decoy them...only problem is that I have no snow goose decoys and don't have any desire to build a spread as I would only have a chance to hunt over them once or so/year. But if someone would be willing to let me tag along on a decoy hunt, I would be more than willing.

ST, I dont have any snow decoys either. Last spring I set up a couple dozen honker decoys, and a bunch of old pillow cases and sheets we cut up. Basicially we had a gibillion white rags on sticks in the middle of a field. Seemed to work for us.

When the snows show up I'll put a posting up on the board.
