Anybody use a Black Mouth Cur

for coon or squirrel hunting? I just got a pup & might try to get into coon/squirrel hunting.

Have a good freind with a cur, don't know what kind for sure but he swears by em for coon and kills a bunch of them each year. Fiesty little farts.

For the most part Black Mouth Curs aren't used for squirrels and coon. They are primarily used for hogs and working cattle I believe. Now I'm not saying it won't hunt the others, but the odds aren't as good.

Most curs used for hunting squirrels and coon are Mountain curs, Kemmer Curs, Stephens Curs, and Leopard Curs. These are also used on other animals. All you can do is give him a chance and see if he's got it. Good luck with your pup.

I watched a video last night about coyote hunting, these guys used the Mountain Cur dog to assist in the hunt. It was quite impressive to see the dogs work the coyotes. The dogs would get the coyotes to chase them and then they would bring them right back to their owner. If the coyote lost interest the dog would turn and run after it till the coyote would start chasing it again, then bring it back into the hunter. The dog was like a magnet to the coyotes. Very Impressive to watch.

The Black Mouth Cur will hunt boar, bear, coon, squirrel and deer.

Yep, he's got the mountain curs. Guess he almost lost one last fall fighting with a big coon.
