Tank - Just got off the phone with "Z" did you tell him about Wednesday? He might have joined us if he knew we were all going. Anyway he's working mids staring tomorrow night but is off I think Mon-Wed., so think about a Monday or Tuesday, whatever's good for you, I'm in! Z is hitting the road to check a different shallow area that we have not been fishing it may be a little early yet but by Tuesday with the warm-ups we could be done in an hour... Looking forward to his report when he get's back...

I might go tomorrow guys, just not sure yet. I am worried because even though you all had about 12" of ice on wed, a lot of rain hit the area yesterday and the temps are now holding at 50 overnight. No cold weather forecasted for the next 7 days. It will be real sloppy and slippery on the ice this weekend. From all of your past expierences, just how fast will we loose the ice at Darago ?

OK so I have been busy . . .had to babysit Kylie last night on Delta . . . since his Ladredge system was not available grin.gif Yeah Baby!! One for Kyle. Anyway . . . you are quite welcome Tank . . .I left to give you the hole after you came over with the sad face to inquire what I was using . . LOL. I guess we should have been doing some yelling to coord the bite better or the "silent" radio thing. Glad you guys got a limit. Tim and I had them but they were playing yoyo a lot, but when they hit, we were ready. Tank, I held up the big girl I just caught for you guys to see as you left the ice and were standing there looking back at us. . . she was a fat one. Johny you are correct, it does seem like the bite is better on the sunny days. I suspect it is a water clarity thing and the rays get the bottom buggers to hatch and wiggle and the females to want to wander in shallow. I wish I could join you guys Sat morning but long drive there and back and then to Liverpool for the Hartwick-Oswego Women's Lacrosse opener at 1pm . . .got to be there, daughter is a Hartwick Captain.

NorthShore we should have left when you guys did it did not get much better after you left. Manning had the Pail of the Day with a limt and some nice ones John was 2nd and 3rd was lacking. Big fish goes to BigJohnnyIce's nice smallmouth. I may have had about 7 keepers myself, couple of rockbass. Tuzzy caught a nice almost 9 3/4" bluegill. It was cool fishing with the Campbells again and running into Mohawk Valley Joe and his partner Joe. Great day on the ice you couldn't ask for better weather. Even though the big perch doidn't cooperate we caught a ton of little ones.

GO ORANGEMEN!

Report for Saturday, March 11, 2006

Fished Saturday at Canadarago on 10-12” of solid ice with some small areas opening up from previous holes.

Although the fishing was a little slow for me as far as keepers go, it was a great time with great people. It was also my pleasure to meet North Shore, The Rogue kid, and Manning. And as always, it was a pleasure to fish with Tank, CNY Tim and Tuzzy.

I ended up with four keeper perch...and the dinks were everywhere for me. I must have caught 70 of them ranging from a mere 2" to 7". The highlight of the day for me was catching an 18 3/4" smallie on UL tackle. The Sedona 750's drag was put to the test on that fish....not to mention the 2lb test! Man that was a great fight! That was my last ice fishing trip this season, and the smallie made closing the door on this season easier! Going to put my ice fishing stuff away today. frown.giffrown.giffrown.gif

Here are few pics from yesterday:

I think Tim ought to dye his hair red during the ice season!!! Sorry I missed you guys but Hartwick won so it was worth it. Weather has good solid cold coming in starting Tuesday late night and going at least through the next weekend . . . so at least 2 more weeks of good ice. I think it is time to try off of the creek inflow for now . . did very well last year about this time.

Welcome aboard, ceder551...

The only thing that I can tell you is that on Saturday, there was a bunch of people ice fishing the north end of the lake when I left in the early evening. Don't know how they did, and I don't know if the ice is still safe in that area since then.

I got out Sunday afternoon . . .about 6 shelters along the north west side on the far side of the creek flow . . . something going on there. Seems like Wayne, Al and I had the same results as the rest did on Saturday. Although Wayne did have several gills and one perch that was 14 inches and 14 inches around!! Oh yeah largemouth are hitting also. Ice is still almost 10 inches in the regular spot and with the cold coming in this Tuesday . . . we can plan on another last time out . . .eh Johnny.

Jimmy was out in front of Hyder Creek Sunday and all he caught were small perch... Z thinks were still 2-3 weeks away from pounding away at Jumbo's in the shallows and we might not get a chance to, will have to pray for cold. Talked to Mohawk Valley Joe today too he was out there Sunday, deep and shallow. The lake had an eery fog to her.

If anyone gets any info on ice conditions put it up.If things look ok I will be available from wednesday on.

I will try to get up there before saturday to do a report on ice conditions. The one day I may only have will be on WED.

The lake saw rain and temps into the upper 60's today. I really feel it will be too dangerous to go out this weekend and I will tell you why. All the holes drilled into the ice are opening up big time. Yes it will get cold after Tue. Most likely ice will begin to re-develope where the holes opened up, but also snow is on the way for the lake. The snow will cover up the holes that begin to refreeze and nobody will see where they where. I dont think it will be cold enough or long enough to safely walk onto those spots. I hope I am wrong, but I do predict someone will go for a swim this weekend on Canadarago.

The good news will be, that I am totally crazy and don't have a clue to what I am talking about and all will be well come this weekend.

I do hope I am very wrong because I want to go ice fishing this weekend on Darago grin.gif

Couldn't have been me. I was in bed until well after daylight and then went to boiling sap. When I go to darago I'm coming from the south and I gets my fill at the Citgo gas station on the south end.

It has been below freezing since yesterday at 1500 hrs (3 pm for the nonmilitary types). The big snow seems to have been North and West of Richfield Springs. I am driving down by the lake on Thursday to go to Oneonta for a LX game, so will report on what I see down there.

Well as promised I went to Canadarago Lake today to see how our ice fared out from the mild temperatures and heavy rain that pelted the lake for a couple of days early this week. I must say there was not one soul out on the lake this morning. The winds where whipping at 50 mph and blowing and drifting snow skidded across the lake.

All shanty’s where removed from the lake and where placed in the parking area of the state boat launch. I could not get to any ice to check for thickness as 90% of the west shoreline was open. Access onto the ice from the south end on Route 28 was impossible as about 100 to 200 yards of open water from the shoreline out, prevent any access.

I did not see any open water other then shoreline water which is a good sign. The weather conditions all day at the lake included high winds, snow squalls, and a air temp that held at 29 degree’s.
