Early, Early spring river fishing....

i spent last night organinzing tackle boxes again... i really need to get out bass fishing. fortunately i live near the Mississippi (can see it out the window of my house). the river is usually fishable by mid to late march and i would like to get out as soon as possible. i have had some luck in the past fishing the rip-rap on the side of the river where the sun has been hitting it. but am looking for some more info on where to look for bass early in the year. where exactly are the spots that the bass would go in the winter before they start coming up to the rip-rap for warmth? this may be a good spot to start. if anyone is really feeling the bass shakes this spring, i would love to have a fishing partner in March. (the river is open to bass fishing year round, so we don't have to wait till the end of May to chase them)

How about a short drive to Minneiska? I always had good March fishing north of you in the tail out area of the weaver slough...that general area produced largemouth and smallmouth bass. I know what you mean about not having to wait for the opener, when you live down there! grin.gif Nav

Hey Andy its Rob my truck will be needing new tires soon and I was thinking of getting my tires from you anyway (for letting me fish with you). I guess I would be able to take you up on that offer. Email me if you are interested. [email protected]

Good Advertisement "I'll take you fishing if you buy some tires"

Dan, I would be up for this... Could we consider pools 4 and 5, then some of us could get a little pre-fishing in for upcoming tourneys... 32 degrees up here in Alex. today, I feel like standing on the dock and tossing a topwater, think they could get through the ice?

i am on Pool 6.. there is a reasonable ammount of parking at the landing near my house (which is right near the landing). we could fish and then gather at my place to have a few beers and b.s.

lets take a poll and see how many are interested in getting together...

March or April huh... chilly - but I'm in! I think April would be your best luck for getting into some fish. I know they start tourneys come mid to late April from Pool 4 on down. Dan - looking for a bass shakes partner grin.gif

Dan - sorry I haven't gotten back to you on the email - my home email has been jacked. Just got back up and running over the weekend. I'll be shooting you an email in the next day or two just to catch up.

WWG,

I don't think those shakes are from bass fishin Bud. j/k

Too bad I miss ya at the Med Event. But I may interested in this also.

I just had a dream about bass fishing two nights ago. Then the wife woke me up, because I was yelling in my sleep.

I told her never to do that again.

i was thinking about the weekend of April 15 & 16. how does that sound.

should we do individual or 2 man teams?

i would like to do Pool 6 only because that is the only pool i have been in on the river. i am rather nervous about taking out the lower unit and would feel more comfortable staying on Pool 6. however, it wouldn't be the end of the world if we decided to try a different pool.

i am planning on getting out in March as well, but by the second weekend of April we should have a better chance of warmer weather.

if anybody wants to come down earlier than the second weekend of April, let me know.

i live right next to the landing in Homer. so i was thinking of doing it there. if people wanted to go thru the locks to other pools that would be fine. we should start talking about all the details now.
